Due to Emily's back problems (she can barely take care of herself, much less the baby), we're pretty much going to be stuck at home for a few days, with me trying my best to take care of both the baby and Emily

I don't think you can ever be prepared for parenthood, but the day to day stuff does get easier. Even the day to day back problems and other sicknesses. Good luck. Order delivery.
I didn't realize Em was having problems. I totally sympathyze & understand. If you need anything, please let us know!! That includes company. We are only moments away, and sanity breaks are important.
No one is EVER truly prepared for this. I am very sorry to hear Em is having back troubles; that can't be easy to deal with for either of you. I'm not that far away (truly) if I can be of any help.
My only suggestions are: Taking care of yourself, Em and kidlet are your top priority. Anything else can WAIT. What doesn't get done today will probably get done tomorrow. Try and keep a sense of humor (it really does help)
I've been where you are. I was terrified I was going to be a bad mom when I brought G home from the hospital. You have my deepest sympathies and support. Call (or email) if you need me :-)
It can be completely overwhelming to realize that someone is so completely dependent on you (and so neeeeedy), especially when your suddenly taking care of both the infant *and* the other caregiver.
I hope you took Shannon's advice and ordered takeout, hopefully paired with a whole lot of wine!
You and Em will be missed on Sunday: we'll raise a glass to you and send our hopes that she gets better soon.
