Your comments for this week were so interesting rhanihf as I too think the process of giving birth would be horribly painful as well as amazingly wonderful. I can’t imagine what you saw and the feelings it would’ve stirred in you. The closest experience I’ve had to the condition of giving birth was a television documentary. After hearing the noises of giving birth (seeing as I had to look away) I clenched all of my muscles for like ten minutes afterwards

Hi Imelda, I really like your thoughts about how Edwards doesnt disregard the pain but combines it to reinforce what she is feeling. Your right, the pain is such a huge part of the process, it would be dishonest to not acknowledge it. Your friend that did not want to talk about her experience of childbirth because she found speaking about the event traumatic, imagine how horrible the actuall event was if just speaking of it is traumatic! My father will often bore his visitors with the 'romantic' version of my brother and my births, proudest moment of his life, never had seen anything more amazing and beautiful then each of us etc etc. My mother has never spoken in such a way about our births, in fact the only thing she has told us is that she was driven by a desire to completly scrub the house clean only hours before her contractions started, that she was made walk around and around the hospital for 1/2 a day to bring on the birth, I hurt her more then Garth. I dont imagine there are too many mothers out there with romantic versions

despite knowing that bringing a life to the world is a great experience (also the worst and most "kill me now") guess art has a way of depicting things in a different perspective to us, similarly does poetry. great thing that we're doing poetry in class, and going to visit the art gallery this semeseter.
