London's burning...

I live just over half a mile from Croydon town centre and the area that was set alight by the rioters last night. There's nothing happened very near where I live, but on the high street what they didn't set alight they smashed up and looted, and apparently the local retail park, which is also about half a mile from me in a different direction has ( Read more... )

So good to hear you're safe. gillyp August 9 2011, 08:30:32 UTC
I was thinking of you when I heard they'd hit Croyden. I couldn't agree with you more, my London friends have been Twittering all morning and they're terrified. This is not Toxteth, there's no excuse for what's happening, none whatsoever. I can't believe Theresa bloody May on TV this morning spouting PC crap, talking about 'understanding' these thugs; I'm ready for them to bring in the tanks and deal with it now.

I'll be honest, I've never felt so right wing. Thatch would never have let this go on like it has.

I'm so glad to hear you're okay.

A colleague -- who visited the UK a month before I did -- and I spent most of the day glued to the online news sites in horrified disbelief. Our opinion very much is that regardless of how long it may take they should use all the CCTV footage to hunt down, arrest, and prosecute everyone that they possibly can.

Here's hoping they've got it out of their system and everything calms down.

:hugs::

I'm glad your safe, but you shouldn't be ashamed. These thugs don't represent Croydon. Most probably don't even live there. The majority of people that live there almost certainly feel like you do, it's what happens next that's important, these criminals need to be hunted down and thrown in jail and the community needs to rally round and help. If people pull together now and help one another, it won't make things right but it will go a long way to healing. We can't let our streets be ruled by these gangs.
