The last of the firecrews finally left after midnight.
They literally could not put that fire out despite putting several swimming pools worth of water on it. The best they could do was keep it from catching the lawn on fire.
Hubby and I have been clingy all evening from thinking about what could have happened if a grass fire had gotten started....!
Our neighbor shared our love of books and all of his are gone now. The only piece of luck the poor man had is that he didn't lose a family member or a beloved pet in this fire.
He'd finished remodeling his house not six months ago. He literally gutted it on the inside and started over from scratch. Bless his heart, he's a talented carpenter, if I'm any judge of what I saw of the inside of his house.
He's old enough to have grown kids, so I'm thinking he must be somewhere in the 40ish to fiftyish range.
I'm sorry to say that neither of us knows him very well yet. He's always been so busy since he bought the house so we've stayed out of his way rather than be a nuisance.
Well, admittedly it was an educated guess on his part, but the fire did start in his attached garage and it spread from there to the rest of the house and he told us he'd put a battery on to re-charge just before he left to run an errand.

That's not Murphy.
How terrible for your neighbor! What a situation to come home to!
May the Lord bless and shelter him.
