Monday Madness

I found and brought home my first three bags of leaves Monday afternoon. Now I get to decide where to put them.

Monday evening I went out on a restocking supply run. I bought bleach, laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, Bar Keeper's Friend scrubbing powder, 409, paper towels, bathroom tissue, ziploc bags, and a few other goodies.

I did splurge a ( Read more... )

You've reminded me: we ought to get in a good supply of all the cleaning and kitchen stuff we normally use, such as bleach, dishwasher detergent tablets, 4-pound boxes of baking soda (for scouring out the bathroom sink and the bathtub); the other bathroom cleaners; paper towels; toilet tissue; some staple food items, none of which is beans because we already have plenty of those, and I'm not sure just what else, but I'll check with himself today and then I'll head out to make a cleaning supplies run, myself.

And it looks as though that strike is going forward, so you were very shrewd to have done the shopping you did.

Glad to have got a reminder. Thank you! 🥰

It's leaf hunting time!
I think the do worker's strike actually is happening. Ours went on strike a few years ago and what a challenge it was to find even basics.

does the foaming cleanser work on stainless steel and rust?
or would barkeepers friend do better.

Barkeeper's Friend can't be beat when it comes to shining up stainless steel and removing rust stains and it's also good on shining up old brass and copper too!

BUT--if you have a nasty older sink that's very hard to clean--I've had my BEST luck cleaning my older sink using Clorox's Clinging Bleach Gel.

Yes, it's made for cleaning toilets but it really does a wonderful job on cleaning sinks too.

BTW--don't forget to wear your rubber gloves when you use it--it's hard core strong and it will do a number on your bare hands.

The nice thing though--it will clean a stained ugly sink and it will do it quickly--usually in less than 5 minutes.

:^)

EDIT--You will need some of those plastic scouring pads to go with your Bar keepers friend or to go with the Clinging bleach gel.

Whatever you do--DO NOT MIX THEM TOGETHER.

I'm not a big fan of chlorine either--

But--bacteria like chlorine a lot less than we do and of all the chemicals that can get stains out, chlorine is probably the least harmful. Chlorine + sodium = SALT, you know.

Something else that kills bacteria even better than chlorine is strong UV light. Several minutes of that will sterilize anything--including AIR--which is why many hospitals often use UV light to sterilize air going into operating rooms. (They do force the air through a filter to remove lint first though.)

:^)
BTW---If you want to neutralize a chlorine and water solution the best thing you can use to rinse it away is a vinegar and water solution.

Whenever I've been cleaning with chlorine-based cleaners and I want to get rid of the "slick" feel that bleach leaves behind, I rinse it first with water and then a second time with water + vinegar. Works like a charm.
