Aggravating Monday...

I spent several frustrating hours late last night trying to find some information on the old Brother sewing machine I bought at the Goodwill a couple years ago.

I even tried to hunt a picture of this machine via Google but I saw absolutely nothing that even vaguely resembled my machine other than the Brother logo.

Naturally there's no serial ( Read more... )

Good luck but how odd there is no serial number. I am supposing that you/hubby checked the motor? Quite often ID engravings are on them.
Does the Brother company still exist?

Definitely. They also make computers and printers these days.

I didn't think about the motor--thanks!

Oh, it is. All it really needs is some oiling, I think.

Now that the penetrating oil has had a chance to creep in over the day, the sewing machine is running much better and faster.
In a few minutes, I plan on taking the top of the machine off, and doing a proper cleaning and oiling inside it.
I'm really quite pleased with myself for having bought it now! Just imagine: Ten dollars for a working sewing machine!

My Hubby came out of his mancave and helped me with the cleaning and oiling of the moving parts inside the lid. We destroyed a lot of Q-tip swabs and paper towels but we got the job done.

This sewing machine dates back to the late 1950's but she actually runs better than most of the modern sewing machines available at the stores these days.

The only thing I have left to do is buy some more bobbins and see if I can find where I hid my bobbin case. I also need to figure out how to wind thread onto the bobbin. It shouldn't be too difficult to do....let's hope they don't carve those words on my tombstone.

We have a strong storm system getting ready to come through our state in another couple of hours, so naturally I can't sleep.

Nice to know somebody admires my stubborn orneriness!

Please see my reply to faunhaert below.

No wonder I couldn't find anything out about my machine last night. It was like I was a hound dog barking up a tree loaded down with coons when I had my heart set on a nice fat possum!

I'm sorry that your searching has revealed nothing helpful. I know you will keep at it, though. You are tenacious if nothing else.

Best of luck! Old sewing machines often - once you get them going - tend to be the most reliable.
