EEEE!

I enjoyed it so much. And like you said, it was really nice to have a wrap-up episode. We needed some closure to deal with the nine month wait.

I am SO HAPPY they're not dragging out the Mary and Matthew any longer and that they might be weathering the scandal together next season. I think they will have plenty of new interesting territory to explore as a married couple. Plus, also, everything is out in the open finally, including with Robert! Who redeemed himself mightily for me this episode. His heart to heart with Mary was gorgeous. A shame we probably won't see the family react to Mary and Matthew's good news!

I also teared up at Anna and Bates. I hope Edith gets a decent storyline next season because I do like her.

It will be interesting to have a pregnant Sybil and married Mary next season. Whole new ground.

We TOTALLY needed the closure. Aside from a few loose ends, this episode could almost serve as a series finale IF, God forbid, more seasons weren't already planned.

I keep going back and forth wondering if Carlisle will go through with his treat or if he's going to drop it (at least the Mary story) because of him telling her he really did love her more than she, him. In a way I do want it to come out just so we'd get to see Protective!Matthew. :)

What aspect of Robert did you need to be redeemed? How he would have reacted to this news had it been just days after the "scandal" occurred or more his reactions to Sybil? (Or something else?) I LOVE his protectiveness and love for Mary and the big hug he gave her.

A shame we probably won't see the family react to Mary and Matthew's good news!

Nooooooo! Don't say that! I actually hadn't thought of it. You know, MAYBE they'll do something different and instead of a time jump, perhaps they'll pick up on the very next day and then later in the episode, jump a few months? I'd like to see ( ... )

I'm not sure about Carlisle revealing it all either. On one hand I feel like it would be wasted drama if he didn't, but on the other hand it did feel like a resolution to that storyline in this eppy.

I wasn't too fond of Robert's behavior during the war - the way he was treating Cora, and his weird little thing with the maid. He was also more preoccupied with Matthew over Mary and I remember a scene when he snapped at Cora for being more concerned about Mary that annoyed me. I was very pleased with him this episode, his thoughtful reaction to Mary's scandal and the way he supported both her and Cora. He was so the Robert of season 1.

I need to see their gleeful faces when Matthew and Mary finally deliver their news! I have a feeling we will skip ahead and they will already be married. Though it would be really really great to go through their engagement with them and their first days as a married couple - Mary dealing with leaving Downton and having Isobel as a (I presume?) live-in mother-in-law ( ... )

Gotta admit I didn't miss Sybil/Branson. I just felt she was only with him to escape her life not because she loved him. So that's tainted them for me tbh ( ... )

Hm, I totally don't feel that way about S/B at all but obviously she does love him. They're still together, married, and have a baby on the way. Ah well, different strokes.... ;)

I totally gasped out loud too! I was just saying above that I just didn't have hanging in my mindset at all so THAT really got to me over even the guilty verdict, which based on the testimony given, wasn't too surprising. Not sure what other "evidence" they're going to find to free him completely.

Mrs. Patmore is your #2 character out of everyone?! Interesting. I mean, I like her and all but definitely would not put her in any top group.

There's not a single character I hate now. I think it's because I felt we got to see another side of both Thomas and O'Brien in season 2. I still want to slap Thomas just not as hard as I used too lolWell, now that Carlisle and Rosamund's maid, not to mention Bates's ex-wife, are out of the picture.... ;) I agree with you about seeing another side of Thomas, O'Brien, and even Edith, which I had forgotten when I typed it ( ... )

Haven't seen your post but just wanted to tell you in case you don't follow the downton_abbey community. Someone has posted all the episodes as well as deleted scenes from S1 and S2 over there.

I do follow it but didn't see the deleted scenes post. I did watch the PBS talk with the cast when they were recently in NYC and an interview with the three girls on Jonathan Ross (it's where that Carson Christmas clip came from - also, S2 spoilers) but that was what was on the most recent page. If you find that post again, would you directly link to it? Thanks!

Here's the link, it's from the UK DVD, I'm guessing.

Oh, I see what the problem was. I was only *watching* the community. Sorry about that. You must think I'm dense since it's the first post, lol. Thanks!

I teared up the most at Mr Mason and Daisy, I got really choked up at that and Daisy finally accepting Mr Mason and William in her life *sob*
Like Sybil says Edith has gotten better since the war, I hope she finds someone more suitable and someone who loves her just as much.
I'm truly tired of all the angst in Bates/Anna's lives, they need a break, let them be happy for heaven's sakes!!
As much as I like M/M (they're like R/Hr for me, I ship them but they're not my OTP) I want my OTP to become canon :P Yeah, you guessed it Carson/Mrs Hughes.
And Violet, she was so irrepressible in this one. Maggie Smith deserves all the awards she can get for this role. I ♥ her hardcore.

I REALLY liked the Mr. Mason and Dasiy development! It was great and unexpected!

I do agree about Edith too. When I first typed up my impressions, I was straight off a S1 rewatch so any good she did in S2 was overtaken by her S1 bitchiness.

I'm fine with the B/A angst. Everything can't have a happy ending or the show would be over. Plus, he does have baggage - it starts with a 'V' and ends with 'era'. (I'm telling you, had she not killed herself, I would have done it for her!)

You're so silly, re: Carson/Mrs. Hughes. They're cute and whatever but for this type of show with the romances they have, THEY'RE you're OTP?? To each their own... ;) There have been nothing hot or sexual about their interactions at all. I actually think it was sad she gave up her old beau, not for Carson but for her allegiance to the house.

I TOTALLY love Violet as well. She just rocks big time!

Actually my OTP is Anna/Bates but I was so frustrated with their storyline after watching the episode that I didn't want to think about them anymore and so mentioned Carson/Hughes here in a fit of pique:P As much as I like them, I don't really consider them my OTP

Ok, that makes more sense. You had me worried there for a moment! :p But boy, can we ever have the same OTP for anything? ;)

Isn't this show the greatest? Largely because of Mary, whom I ADORE. I wasn't thrilled with most of S2, but I did love the Christmas special.

I was very angry on Daisy's behalf that everyone pushed her into marrying William, but I liked the development between her and Mr. Mason. I like that she was able to take the good that came from her relationship with William, to accept the fact that she did care for him (even if she didn't love him) and she did have a right to have a connection with his father if she wanted to, that it wouldn't be lying or cheating in some way. I think she was able to do this in part because she learned from Mr. Mason that William married her to give Mr. Mason another relation in his life. He had a reason for the marriage besides romantic love. So she wasn't entering the marriage out of romantic love, but maybe he wasn't either, and maybe that makes the whole thing less of a sentimental lie. And Daisy needs a parent! So finally the relationship with William has given her something that she desperately needs ( ... )
