Well, there are many things. One, is when the characters aren't canon - true to the books, I mean. But that's what fanfiction is for, to have things happen that won't happen in the books. What I mean is that it's fine and dandy if you want...Hermione to hook up with Draco, but don't throw a soap opera love affair that involves Snape, Harry, and Ginny. Two, original characters. Everyone wants to throw themselves into the mix, but once the "world" of Harry Potter is penetrated with something of "our" world, everything just becomes a Mary Sue. Three, inexperienced writers. It's very obvious which fanfiction authors are mature writers, with everything needed to make a fanfiction worth while (character development, canon, keeping the facts straight, intriguing story line, etc.) and which authors aren't (Mary Sue, naive plot lines, juvinile speaking, etc.). That's about all I can elaborate on...

-I don't like it when Tom Felton is Draco's twin.
-I don't like it when Hermione (slaps!) people (slap slap slap).
-I don't like it when Harry has a twin sister with the same scar.
-I don't like it when a character can transform into 4.7 animals.
-I don't like [British Profanities].
-I don't like Snape crying over the Malfoy's; his favorite family.
-I don't like it when the Boy-Who-Lived has another problem: pregnancy.
-I don't like it when cool muggle bands like Linkin Park comes to play at Hogwarts.
-I don't like HOTSEXY!Hermione and OMGGOTH!Harry and MANWHORE!Ron.
-I don't like spelling errors such as Voldimrote, Hermieone, Wesealy, Dumbeldore, McNagoal, Severtrus Snaerpe.
-I don't like author notes (A/N: though they're very informative!).

Ugh, that's a hard one. I really hate Draco/Hermione fics, because they're always soooo OOC, but ships are really personal preference, I suppose. ;) I also hate original characters with a passion... and when canon characters suddenly feel the need to use IM at Hogwarts. *dies*

Any characters written blatantly OOC throughout the entire fic. Especially if they've suddenly turned into Mary Sues. *mutters* Makeover!Hermione comes to mind (and yes, I admit to writing one, but we won't talk about that) as well as poorly written OCs.
