Night Terrors

Well it's happened. I had a feeling with Jack being so vocal in his sleep that this would happen. He stirs in the night, and cries a little, but most of the time not enough to fully disturb his sleep. When the crying wakes him, I can settle him back to sleep by laying on his bed with him, and stroking his fac. I tell him to clothes his eyes and ( Read more... )

My sister had night terrors and she does not remember them at all. So I do not think they have a lasting effect. But I do not know what I would do, it would certainly freak me out if my child was going through it.

My youngest son had night terrors and they are so horrible. he would shake and not know where he was. They say to be very calm and try not to wake them....he would walk around too, so if I didn't hear him get out of his bed, he'd end up in the kitchen trying to get out the door or he'd be standing in the middle of the living room crying. They eventually stopped a year or two ago. He's nine now...

I think what your doing is perfect....
My SIL used to try to wake her daughter up and that usually scared her more...

I just looked it up because I forgot who told me you weren't suppose to wake them up...maybe it was my SIL...but this was in the article, so maybe I assumed I wasn't suppose to wake him up...

"Above all else, be a comforting presence and use gentle cues to soothe her like rubbing her back or stroking her hair"...

I remember telling him I loved him and holding him tight...it used to scare me.

awww sis... Nick kind of did the same thing when he was a tot. Sad thing with Nick though was he wouldnt wake up. He would sit and cry for a long time, maybe 20 minutes or so...then fall back to sleep. Then in the morning Id ask him what was wrong... he said nothing. I said but you woke up screaming and he said no I didnt. So I didnt make it into a big issue. Maybe Jack isnt remembering whats upsetting him so.

Poor little guy. Forgive me for asking, because I am new to your f-list, but how old is he? I think they started for me when I was around 8.

My 3 year old went through this at about 2 1/2. She had a bad month then things got better. There is alot out there to read on night terrors too. The good things is they dont remember them in the morning. The worst thing is to see your child so scared : (
