I hope your mom starts to feel better soon. I know how worrisome it can be to see a parent struggling with a illness. But she seems like a tough cookie, I'm sure she'll pull through soon.

Thanks for the kind wishes. It's terrifying to cope with a parent's mortality - especially when I'm not nearly ready to let either one go.

I'm not sure it's possible to come to terms with your parent's mortality, or that I'd even want to. But strange as it sounds, I think you've been given a gift. You have the time to have your mom there with you, knowing that she may not be there in the future. I guess we value things more when we know they'll come to an end.

I think you're right on both counts. I've contemplated what it would mean for my mother to be gone before but it's never been as real as it was in that moment. And that sort of scares the shit out of me.
