Messengers and Privacy

Okay, so I know that when you sign into AIM as Invisible, on some people's IM clients, you'll appear as visible for just a split second when you log in.

So how come so many people have to IM me at the very moment they see me log in? Especially when they have nothing to talk about other than just, "Hey ( Read more... )

And I can sometimes take it too far the other way, reluctant to approach someone on the offchance that they might be busy...

Though being just an erratic correspondent in general doesn't help, erf.

But yeah. It gets especially aggravating when someone messages repeatedly. Especially if I have an away message set, but even if not... if I'm not answering messages promptly, nagging isn't going to make me more likely to do so, and will in fact probably make me shy away. Perhaps not the best solution, but that's sort of how I am; I don't like being pressured to respond.

Sometimes I really do log on and then back off. I would say that this prevents such behavior, but I actually have people talk to me when I'm not online. You know, log in, have a message from 2 days ago pop up saying "hi".

The moral of this story is... people... do things?

What Rattus said.

You've committed 4 cardinal sins of the fandom:
1) You're known.
2) You write smut.
3) You're published for writing smut.
4) You're published for writing decent furry work as well.

Yeah. Now you get to talk to all the sycophantic hangers on that want nothing more than to be seen with you, so they can try and sponge off of you, or ride your coat-tails to a semblance of the popularity you enjoy.

Now you know how the artists feel!

Well, as for numbers 2 and 3, I don't actually have any smut written or published as 'Rikoshi,' is the thing, so I'm not sure that explains it. :)

For what it's worth, I'm not complaining about being popular or having people like me (Hell, that'd be a stupid thing to complain about). I just don't want people to feel like they NEED to jump down my throat to just say hi, y'know?

This is pretty much why I stopped using any chat client that doesn't allow me to stay permanently invisible.

Wait I mean HEY RIKKY WHAT'S UP?
