Okay, so I know that when you sign into AIM as Invisible, on some people's IM clients, you'll appear as visible for just a split second when you log in.

So how come so many people have to IM me at the very moment they see me log in? Especially when they have nothing to talk about other than just, "Hey ( Read more... )

I know you're often invisible. So when I feel like chatting I say hi, and if you don't respond, that's that. :)

I think it's just Pidgin that does that annoying invis-whut thing.*

Digbsy is actually a pretty sweet replacement for that on windows.

*I could be wrong, it's been a while since I went invisible. Nowadays I've a hack to "block" certain people without formally blocking them if they get annoying so they don't get the idea to ping me on different screen names. It's kind of rude, but then again, so is constant poking and prodding despite politely informing them that you're busy and sort of want to talk with close friends for a bit.

Yeah, that kind of behavior annoys and confuses me, too. If someone isn't responding on one IM, how is messaging them on a different one going to make a difference? It's not like cell phones where they might've forgotten it in the car.

This problem has been plaguing you for quite a while. Have you considered the multiple s00per-seekrit screennames scheme? Or just delaying your response, perhaps permanently, to the repeat offenders who IM you when the interruption is unwanted?
