The Cynics were the followers of Diogenes- they did not believe in "hype." They called themselves "Dogs" because they would hang out in street packs and publicly yelp at falseness and inauthenticity when they saw it. I know in the pagan world we are all "cynical dogs" to a certain degree. After all, it is a huge part of our spiritual practice to sniff out inauthenticity and eliminate it in our own lives
