"What, now it's cookies?" Mel eyed the platter in front of her in confusion. "Since when is Rebecca so…normal?"
"She's never normal." Danny swiped two cookies and shoved them both in his mouth. "But her cookies are," he mumbled.
Paul rolled his eyes. "She said something about baking when under pressure, remember?"
"Yeah, but what's got her all stressed out?" Mel nibbled a cookie thoughtfully. "Think it's a guy?"
"A guy?" Danny asked around a mouthful of oatmeal and raisin. Paul looked skeptical.
"It could be a guy," she insisted.
"It's probably the case," Paul broke a cookie in half, taking a bite. "It's always the case."
"She's been spending an awful lot of time with Carter lately," Mel murmured thoughtfully. Both men looked at her. "What?"
Paul's lip curled in slight revulsion. "Its just...Carter isn’t…"
"Isn’t what?" Danny asked through another mouthful of cookie.
"Isn’t...her type," Paul finished lamely.
"And you are?" Mel lifted an eyebrow.
"I could be," Danny offered with a grin. "We haven’t seen her with any guy but Mr. Happy Pants, so, I could be her type."
Mel laughed, shaking her head, "If you're her type, then Paul's mine. And that's just...ewww."
"Gee, thanks."
"No offense," she grinned at Paul.
"Then maybe I'm your type, huh?" Danny grinned devilishly at the redhead. She snorted and Paul choked back a laugh.
"Yeah," sputtered Paul. "Because we know what kind of women you tend to go for."
Danny looked affronted, "What kind of women do I go for?"
Paul and Mel exchanged a look, "Let's just say, not the Rebecca-type."
"Hey, If I wanted Rebecca, I could have Rebecca."
Mel snorted and Paul shook his head, "Let's just stop that train of thought before it leaves the station."
"It's left the station and is approaching Boise!" Danny argued. "Locke is a little weird, but she is still female, and therefore subject to the charms of the Love Man."
Mel winced. "I can't believe you just used that term to describe yourself."
"Oh, yes, you can." Paul snickered. "Ok, then, Love Man...How would you go about wooing our Rebecca?"
"I'll have you know, I'm an excellent woo-er."
"Woo-er?"
"I said it."
"Which," Mel pointed out, "Still isn't an answer to the question, Love Man."
"Who?" Rebecca paused in the doorway, one eyebrow going up at the three in front of her. "Uh.." Paul managed, visibly losing his train of thought.
Mel looked down quickly, stuffing another cookie in her mouth to avoid having to answer.
"Well," Danny kicked his feet out in front of him, crossing his ankles lazily. "The others were wondering what it would take for you to fall for me, Locke." There was a layer of seriousness in his eyes, even as he voiced amusement.
Rebecca shifted her weight, looking from Mel to Paul uncomfortably before her gaze landed back on Danny. "And why would the others wonder that?" she moved further into the room and picked up a cookie, distractedly breaking off a bite and popping it into her mouth.
"We were wondering," Paul shot Mel a look, "Okay, I was wondering, if it was a guy making you all stressed."
"A guy," she repeated, glancing a Danny again.
"Not Danny," Mel rushed to add.
"No," Danny smirked, "She thinks it's Carter."
"Carter?" Rebecca smiled at that and wandered out the door back toward the bullpen. "Interesting."
Danny grinned as she turned away. "Isn't it?" He asked casually.
Mel looked between the two of them, Danny grinning like a Cheshire cat. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Oh, and Danny?" Rebecca stuck her head back in the door. Her face was flushed. "I'm out of chocolate chips."
"I'll bring some over after work. Chinese tonight?"
Paul's mouth dropped open as Rebecca's face turned redder and she determinedly didn’t take her eyes away from Danny's face. She smiled nervously, wiping her hands on her skirt. "Italian. I'll make chocolate lasagna."
Danny smiled at her, his eyes warm. "Sounds decadent."
Rebecca ducked back out of the room, refusing to look at the two people staring at her in shock.
Danny just bit into another cookie. "Oh yeah," he sighed in contentment. "She bakes naked, too."
