There was an article on CNN.com the other day about young Jewish twenty-somethings who had pledged to drive down to Florida to convince their grandparents to vote for Obama. The grandparents (and their entire retirement communities) were apparently a group of traditionally voting Dems who were afraid to vote for a black President, who might also be Muslim.

The article had a far more positive spin, as it had a happy ending. The grandparents were swayed. It also made an interesting point that when dealing with deeply entrenched prejudice, the best course of action is a one on one calm discussion with someone the grandparents love and trust.

The thing that bothers me most of all though, is the press refering to the smear campaigns against Obama that accuse him of being Muslim. The answer keeps coming back to saying, no, it's okay, he's Christian. Instead of challenging the view that an accusation of being Muslim shouldn't be called a smear in the first place.

I know! Being Muslim is not a bad thing, and people are acting like it's a crime against humanity.

I think the thing that bothered me isn't so much the Christian angle, because I firmly believe that God and politics have no business mixing. It's the part about people think Obama is going to enslave white people or something. Yes. This ONE man will have enough power to enslave one class of a democratic society. *eyeroll*
