Title: Rooftop Rant
Pairing: Nishikido Ryo/Ueda Tatsuya
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own weird imagination :d
Warning: All the characters were totally opposite with the real character of these JE boys. And yes, Ryo is older than Tatsuya in this fiction. The content of this story can be disturbing to some, so feel free to stop reading if you don’t like it >:p
A/N1: This is an adaptation from one of my fav novel/writing Hlovate's Rooftop Rant. The writing is so inspiring that I can't help but keep reading it over and over again. Then I thought it would be nice if I can write a different version of it. It might be a bit similar but as the story goes, I'll try to write it in a different way. So here I am :')
A/N2: I love Ryoda a lot but I’ve never write anything about this pairing. So I thought it’s about time for me to write Ryoda fiction. Since I’m very much new to this writing and LJ thing, be easy on me please? *puppy eyes attacks*

CHAPTER 8 - MEANT FOR SOMETHING MORE

Ryo climbed the stairs carefully, holding his backpack with one hand while his other hand was holding two bottles of mineral water. He smiled though he was alone. Nothing has changed. He climbed the stairs up to the rooftop still with the same reasons; to find a peaceful life and ideas for his drawing. The reasons were still there, it just that there was something else that guided him to that rooftop.
Ueda Tatsuya.
It wasn’t like he liked Tatsuya more than he liked Jin and Yamapi. It wasn’t because Tatsuya was a rich kid that he can use for his own good. It wasn’t like Tatsuya was an abandon kid and he can take advantage of it. It just that Tatsuya was different and Ryo couldn’t help but had a feeling that he was responsible to look after Tatsuya. He knew all this while, Tatsuya had been by himself and he was sure that Tatsuya won’t have any problem in taking a good care of himself anyway; but there was something that made Ryo wanted to be by Tatsuya’s side. And Tatsuya himself never asked for something like that from Ryo, Ryo volunteered to do it. Sometimes he thought that Tatsuya might do something bad if he wasn’t there. He knew about Tatsuya’s habit of taking pills, smoking, and his depression. That was why he wanted to be with Tatsuya, to make sure that Tatsuya won’t do anything stupid again.
He almost reached the rooftop, taking his time in climbing the stairs while his mind was flying somewhere, still thinking about Tatsuya. Then he chuckled, remembering their early conversations on the rooftop, after the incident of Tatsuya collapsed and he had to bring that guy to the hospital. Tatsuya was quite talkative; he didn’t expect that at all. Tatsuya will talk and he will always listen. There was always something Tatsuya wanted to share with him. It bothered him at first, just when he thought that he needed to concentrate on his drawing but Tatsuya just didn’t want to stop talking. But now, it felt different if he didn’t hear Tatsuya’s voice when he was drawing. He can’t focus on his drawing and the idea just won’t come. But it was different now. Ryo needed to hear Tatsuya’s voice to keep his fingers dance on the white canvas.
Tatsuya was special. Since he came to know that pretty boy, Ryo felt at ease. They shared their stories, their dreams, their hopes, and almost their life; and that made Ryo felt there was something more that connected them in any way. And he wanted to know more about it. He wanted to make it last longer. He just wanted it.
He reached the entrance door of the rooftop and peeked in through the door, a pair of blue snickers dangling out of the corner. He’s already here. Ryo slowly approached, sat down at his usual spot and leaned against the wall, glancing at Tatsuya through the corner of his eyes. He reached out his hand, touched Tatsuya’s shoulder lightly and Tatsuya twitched, eyes opened widely and Ryo had to withdraw himself away.
“God Ryo! You scared the hell out of me!” Tatsuya closed his eyes, rubbed his chest up and down as he tried to calm himself down.
Ryo raised his eyebrow. “Tatsuya, is something wrong?”
Tatsuya stopped his antic, stared at Ryo for a few seconds before a glimpse of tears started to well in his eyes. Ryo sat still for a moment before he slowly moved closer to Tatsuya.
“Tatsuya, say something” Ryo put his hand on Tatsuya’s head, running his fingers through Tatsuya’s smooth hair. Tears started to fall down on Tatsuya’s cheeks.
“The-they are going to di-divorce” soft sobbed now turned into a loud cry and Ryo pulled Tatsuya closer, buried Tatsuya’s face on his chest while he rubbed Tatsuya’s back slowly.
“I heard them. They were yelling…they were screaming…they were fighting. I heard everything. They hate me, they wanted to separate. They don’t want me anymore”
“Shush Tatsuya, don’t say something like that. Of course they want you. You’re their son”
Tatsuya shook his head violently. “NO! They are going to divorce! And they’ll throw me away! They’re going to leave me alone!”
“Tatsuya” Ryo dropped a few kisses on Tatsuya’s head. His heart stinging in pain, seeing Tatsuya cried like that.
“Ryo, don’t leave me please? Don’t ignore me” Tatsuya was wailing, clinging to Ryo like his whole life was depended on it and Ryo nodded, tightened his embrace not wanting to let go of the latter. Tatsuya continued to weep and Ryo was still there, holding his own tears from flowing down. He had to be strong for Tatsuya.
He was leaning against the wall, with Tatsuya’s head on his lap. He looked down, caressed Tatsuya’s plain face gently while wiping the remaining tears on his cheeks. Tatsuya looked so peaceful, sleeping like a baby after he lost all his energy for crying out loud earlier. Ryo sighed. He didn’t expect this at all. Ryo stared at the figure who was laying weakly on the floor. Tatsuya looked so vulnerable right now; helpless and so insecure. He looked even worse compared to that time at the hospital. Ryo leaned down and placed a chaste kiss on Tatsuya’s forehead. I promise I won’t leave you Tatsuya.
*****
Ryo waited patiently, occasionally throwing a gaze at the entrance door and glancing at the watch while tapping the pencil nervously on the sketchbook. Tatsuya was surprisingly late today and Ryo can’t help but feeling worried. Yesterday, he offered to send Tatsuya home, afraid that something might happen to Tatsuya with the way he cried and his current condition. But Tatsuya refused, saying that he was feeling better and he was going to be fine. He called Tatsuya last night, after his working hour but the latter didn’t pick up the phone either and that made Ryo felt even troubled. He was afraid that something might have happened to Tatsuya, or Tatsuya might have done something terrible again.
Ryo bit his lips. He had waited for 3 hours now but Tatsuya was nowhere to be seen. He glanced at his watch again; almost time for his part time job and Ryo gave up. He stood up, grabbed his backpack on the floor and walked away, and for the first time leaving the rooftop with a heavy heart. Just where are you now, Tatsuya?
*****
Ryo was doing the dishes at the back of the restaurant when his phone ringing in his pocket. He stopped, wiped his wet hands using the towel on the shelf nearer and pulled out the phone.
“Hello”
“Hello” a female voice greeted and Ryo straightened his body. “May I speak to Nishikido-kun please?”
“I’m Nishikido Ryo. May I know who’s on the line?”
“I’m Miyaki. I’m working with Ueda’s family”
“Is something happened to Tatsuya?” his heart was beating fast, like it would burst out of the cage.
“That’s why I call you. Tatsuya-sama hasn’t come home yet. Since you’re the only friend Tatsuya-sama ever talked about, I thought he’s with you” there was a hint of worry in that voice.
“No, he isn’t. And I didn’t met him today either”
“Can you help me find him? His parents aren’t home either and I don’t know who else I should call for help. I’m afraid that something bad might happen to Tatsuya-sama”
“Hai, I will find him. I promise”
*****
Tatsuya, what are you thinking?
Ryo climbed up the stairs for the second time today, hoping that he would find Tatsuya on the rooftop this time. Early the day, Tatsuya didn’t show up and Ryo knew something wasn’t right at all. Since yesterday, Tatsuya was in a horrible state and refused to accept any help from Ryo. But tonight, Ryo was hoping that Tatsuya was there or else, he didn’t know where to find that boy anymore. Tatsuya better be there. Ryo silently prayed in his heart.
He reached the top of the building, quite breathless from the frantic running. Ryo stood near the wall, slowly taking a breath while he let his eyes wandered around the rooftop. It was dark at night and Ryo shivered when a cold air greeted his trembling body. This was his first time he came here during night and he was quite lost of where to find Tatsuya. With a little help from the street light, he spot a pair stretched out around the corner, quite far from their usual spot.
“Tatsuya?” he called out while slowly approaching the owner of the blue snickers.
“Tatsuya?” he fastened his steps. “Tatsuya?” heart was beating fast, eyes felt hurt. Ryo continued to walk. Behind the corner, Tatsuya was sitting helplessly at the floor, throwing his gaze far to the front with the eyes glittered with remaining tears.
“Tatsuya!” Ryo kneeled in front of Tatsuya, waving his hand frantically as he tried to catch the attention of that boy. But Tatsuya’s gaze was empty, like he wasn’t there at all.
“Tatsuya, what are you doing here?” Ryo shook Tatsuya’s shoulders lightly and this time Tatsuya moved, titling his head to look at Ryo.
“You’re noisy” Tatsuya narrowed his eyes and pushed Ryo away. He wobbled a bit but tripped on his foot when he tried to stand up. Luckily Ryo was faster enough to catch him from falling to the floor.
“Tatsuya, why are you acting like this?” Ryo had a hard time to keep Tatsuya stood still, and Tatsuya made it even harder, pushing Ryo away with half-opened eyes.
“Go away! I can do what I want, no one cares. I should have die, then they don’t have to fight everyday because of me” Tatsuya was crying again.
“Tatsuya, listen to me” Ryo called in a soft and tender voice, trying to bring Tatsuya back to reality. “Everyone cares about you. Miyaki-san is worried about you. Your parents care about you”
Tatsuya shook his head. “Don’t say something ridiculous!”
“Tatsuya, don’t do this. I love you. Please Tatsuya” Ryo was pleading.
“I’m tired. I want to sleep. Let me sleep, Ryo” Tatsuya’s voice started to slur, eyes were closed, and his body went limp in Ryo’s hold.
“Tatsuya! Tatsuya, what did you take?” Ryo looked around and he spotted a white packet on the floor, next to Tatsuya’s backpack. He reached down, grabbed that empty white packet with one hand while his other hand was supporting Tatsuya’s body with all his might. He read the name of the pharmacy on the packet and also the description for the medicine. He was clueless of what type of medicine it was.
“Tatsuya, how much did you take the pills?”
“..tired..don’t wake me up…”
“Dammit!! Tatsuya, what have you done?” Ryo pulled out his phone from his pocket, quickly dialed an emergency number for a hospital. After he was done giving the direction to the operator, he called another number in his phone.
“Hello Miyaki-san? I found Tatsuya” he hang up, switched back his attention to Tatsuya who was already unconscious in his embrace.
“Hang in there, Tatsuya.” he lifted Tatsuya in bridal style, run to the exit door, and climbed down the stairs.
“Don’t leave me Tatsuya. I love you. Don’t you dare…” he choked on his own tears. “…leave me alone. I love you…”
