Recipes for a man who is basically alone in his life, Issue #1

Aug 18, 2009 21:14

Joanna and I broke up, most of my friends moved away, and I live alone in a small apartment with a tiny, empty kitchen. Now that there is nobody around to make food for me, I have been on a hunt for very simple recipes that someone with no cooking experience and no access to human supervision or companionship can make. Bonus points if the dish is ( Read more... )

I think you update even less than I do, which is saying something. Good to hear from you! I didn't know you and Joanna broke up -- I'm so sorry :( I hope you're hanging in there.

Pasta would be a pretty safe bet for you to cook. Boil some water, throw in some salt, let noodles cook in boiling water according to time on package, drain, dump on some pre-made sauce and you're set.

I have done this "pasta" thing before, but it always comes out rather bland for me. Is there anything I can put on it or in the sauce to make it more interesting? What goes well with pasta as a side dish?

I usually make pasta as a main dish. (Of course, I'm a vegetarian, so that may alter my thinking.) My favorite is pesto sauce (you can just buy this) with some funky noodles. Add mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini, etc. Yum :)

Thanks, I'll look into that cookbook.

This woman... I kind of want to be her lover, but I also want her to be my mommy. Alex, this is a very confusing feeling.

I love seeing if a guy will take me out to eat wings and then wanna see me again. I seriously get messy when I eat them, but I love them so. Best wings in my opinion are from Hooters. Three Mile Island sauce. I stand by it every time. Baking them with Franks is the way my aunt does them, and hers are my second favorite.

I used to see a guy who made eating wings an art. He did it so delicately and neatly. My brother still marvels about it to this day.

There seems to be a list of things that women think that men never want to see - what they look like when they wake up, what they look like when they eat messy things, etc. This is a lie, and I don't know where it comes from, because all the men I know like to see cute girls not being prim.

My favorite buffalo wing role model.

God, I want to go get wings now just to try that.

Come to San Francisco and we'll eat oven wings and weep together.

I like getting those boil-in-a-bag curries from Asian shops. They're pretty much impossible to screw up. You just boil water, throw in the bag, then empty the now-heated bag onto some rice.

BONUS: Smear the curry sauce onto some wings and throw them in the oven. CURRY WINGS.

That's a good idea. I sort of wish I could read the labels, but I'll just go and grab a bunch and try them. Do they taste good and not chemical-y?

They're not bad, actually. Careful, though-- some of the packages are curry powder bricks, and not complete curry+veggies. They're around $1.50-$2.50 a box (the bag is inside).

(The curry powder is not bad either, though, if you want to invest in some meat/potatoes/carrots/onions, and want to stew away for an hour or so.)

I too am really sorry to hear about you guys. I rec cous cous as an easy meal- boil some water oil and spices, dump in the cous cous, turn the heat off and put the lid on the pot, wait five minutes.

Also I love hot wings and used to order them all the time and make a huge mess of myself.

Couscous! I should get some of that, thanks for reminding me that it exists as a food option.

Yeah, I do. I salvaged it from when our big house broke up.

I never even thought of putting anything but rice in a rice cooker. What else can I do with it?
