The forecast for last Friday was rain, so we decided to wait until today and see what the weather was going to be.  Last night the TV forecast was for 0C to 17C - well it wasn't going to rain but it was going to be very cold!  Decided we'd go anyway.

What an absolutely magical day. We started with a 6°C morning. Not too cold but definitely quite chilly. Cloudy sky but with a promise of sunshine to come. After Henley Brook there is very little road access to the river upstream and at this time of the year the river is very narrow and difficult to navigate. This was a tricky spot to access.  We had to take Barrett Road of Great Northern Highway, but they're doing a lot of road works on the highway and we almost missed the turn off.  The road ends in a cul-de-sac and the bank down to the river is impossibly steep.  Although my hero says he has no problems getting into the kayak ( Read more... )

The road to Reg Bond Reserve from Great Northern Highway was through a fairly new area of housing with all those weird twisty, turning streets.  We finally found our way there, parked the car and used Gordon's homemade kayak trolley to take the kayaks one at a time down to the river.  It's pretty tricky getting the kayaks ( Read more... )
