The GOP consistently disappoints me

So I don't know why, I still like to think one day I'll want to be a republican again, but I think this entire generation is done for me.

I was reading about Schock and I was thinking "huh, maybe we need young members of the GOP to freshen up the party", and I like his focus, cutting taxes: good, Slashing the deficit: good, credit card reform: good ( Read more... )

That's exactly why I don't play party politics. I don't believe in the left wing view of government, and I don't believe in the right wing's view of oppressive personal rights. It's frusterating. I think GOGO's are stupid and redundant... GOCO's are much more appropriate in a lot of cases. I also think that if my best gay friend wants to marry his boyfriend, smoke marijuana, and own a gun... as long as it's not imposing undue harm to those around him, that's his right!

But... the thing I have to keep in mind is this... there is NO common sense in government. I know, I work for them. WHY I still think, as a tax-payer and voter, that the gov't should allow people to USE common sense... when they have none of their own... still baffles me.

I'm not sure that made sense, but I feel better having typed it.

You know, a long time ago the term Conservative Democrat was fairly well known and it was the Dems (especially southern Dems) that had a lot of moral social ties. How did the Reps pick it up? Utah? Strong Midwest ties with farmers? I'd lean more libertarian but some of their followers are almost anarchs.

Yeah, my big problem with the libertarians are that they're essentially anarchs, which isn't my style. I like organization, and I'm not very pro-privacy, I think the internet nixes a lot of that, we're all connected.

There isn't a major or semi-major political party that fits me.

Its kinda funny to me when the republicans fight so hard for people's right to bear arms (which I believe in), but less so about separation of church and government (which I also believe in, especially since there isn't "a" church or even "a" faith for the US, we're pretty mixed)

Same here. I remember reading an article that came out as the whole national ID thing was being debated. The US is the only industrialized nation that DOESN"T have a national ID.

I've been disallusioned by the republican party as well which is why even though I liked McCain, I was hoping Obama was going to win just to see what he would do. Unfortunately even his own party is overriding things he wants to do. The Dems helped vote down his desire to close Gitmo. I think a lot of hope was placed on him and the American people are going to be disappointed. A president has very little power really and congress can agree on much or very quickly.
