Characters: Red and anyone else Date/Time: December 15, late morning Location: Celadon City fountain plaza Warnings: None Summary/Notes: Red is monitoring the decorations outside of Celadon Department Store.
Tate couldn't seem to stay in one place. He had arrived in Vermillion from Olivine just a little while ago, but had quickly moved on to Saffron and then to Celadon. He would have stayed longer in Vermillion but .. it was kind of freezing since the sea swept in cold air. Tate wasn't used to it.
Anyway, it was around that time of year and since he was still in Kanto, Celadon seemed like the perfect place to shop for Christmas gifts. Kanto had a lot of things Hoenn didn't have, and he figured Liza would love something foreign. Exotic - or whatever she called it; girls were weird. So Solrock and him were on ~Mission WINDOWSHOPPING~ Tate had taken a moment to gaze at the huge tree but went back to his shopping quickly (shopping was hard, okay, it took concentration). He wasn't really paying attention to where his Solrock wandered off to.
So Red didn't like the feeling of looking over someone's shoulder? How did he feel about a giant space rock looking over his?
Red felt his body shiver, so he zipped his jacket up to his chin. He thought that was odd knowing that he bundled up well for today's temperatures. It almost felt like he was reacting for another reason.
He tried focusing on his clipboard, was it something about the project? It was hard to read the lettering with some sort of moving shadow blocking his light-
Red turned around quickly and found himself face to face with a pair of eerie red eyes. "W-WHOA!" he jumped away, falling into a crouch. His clipboard clattered to the ground nearby. "Is... that a Pokémon?" His hand automatically reached for the Pokédex in his back pocket. It beeped in his hand and registered the mysterious being.
Red stood up and closed the device. "Solrock, huh? Never seen one before. You're probably with a visiting trainer, huh?" he spoke to the floating sun.
Solrock murmured softly in response, hovering closer. It picked up the fallen clipboard with Psychic and returned it to Red.
At that moment, Tate realized something was missing and that there was distance interfering with his connection with his pokemon. He could vaguely hear the cryptic space speak of Solrock and turned in the direction it came from. Much to his demise, it was with someone.
Tate rushed over as fast as he could, quickly grabbing onto one of the Solrock's rays when it was within reach. "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" He spoke to the pokemon but then turned to Red. "I'm sorry, was he bothering you?"
"Thanks," Red smiled at the Solrock as he took the clipboard and noted its psychic powers. Good to know if he was ever facing one in battle. He heard someone running closer and address him. Turning to face the source of the voice, Red could see a young man roughly the same age as he; this person must be Solrock's trainer... he seems familiar.
"Oh. No, it's fine." Red nodded and gave the Solrock and his trainer a small, reassuring smile. "I'm glad he came by. I've never seen this Pokémon before; we don't have Solrock in Kanto."
Erika had also been getting her gym decorated for the Holidays. After all, having her gym in one of the busiest cities of the region meant many people would see her gym, and the grass type trainer wanted to leave a lasting impression on the visitors.
While decorating the outside of the gym with flowery decorations, Erika realized she would need to make another trip to the department store (one of the advantages of living in such a huge city. The gym leader made her way for the crowded town square, bringing Bellossom out with her; unlike the rest of her team, who were all wary of the cold, Bellossom's spirits seemed to heighten as the Holiday season approached.
The two made their way through the crowd, Bellossom mesmerized by the decorations they were putting up. The pokemon's eyes sparkled, paying closer attention to the lights than where she was going when- bam! Bellossom bumped in to Red's leg, falling backwards.
Red wobbled and flailed his arms to keep balance; his clipboard fell out from his hand yet again. Something had impacted his calf, he looked down to see a Bellossom laying on its back.
"H-hey..." He leaned over the tiny flowering Pokémon. "Are you okay?" Fearing that it could get stepped on from all the foot traffic, he knelt on the ground beside it and put his hand behind its back to lift it up. "Huh? You're Erika's Bellossom, right?"
"Bell!" The fall didn't seem to have much an impact on the pokemon, who quickly recovered and nodded cheerfully. Bellossom squirmed out of Red's hold, walking a few steps to pick up the clipboard not much smaller than her, and hand it back to Red, looking chipper.
At that moment, Erika had come back, searching for a her pokemon. "Bellossom! I see you have ran in to a friend. I hope you weren't bothering him" She smiled, bowing politely to the trainer, as Bellossom walked over to the gym leader's side. "What brings you to Celadon City, Red?"
Red looked up to see the Celadon City gym leader. He figured they would run into each other, though perhaps not quite literally in the case of her Pokémon. "Hey, Erika." He held up his hand in a quick wave, then used the same arm to take the clipboard back from Bellossom. Red smiled at the little flower Pokémon. "Thanks."
He stood back up to face the lady. "I'm on monitor duty for the set up." He motioned a thumb towards the display. "Looks like they added more stuff this year." Red turned back to look at the work, then back to Erika. "How about you? Shopping?"
The biting cold was familiar to Lucas, who was used to Sinnoh's lower temperatures. He tugged a little at his scarf and leaned his head back to catch a glimpse of the top of the ornamented tree, holding onto his hat with his other hand to keep it firmly in place. He was in Kanto for a very specific reason; he needed a gift for Dawn, but he didn't want it to be something she would have seen in Veilstone. Since he was going to research in Kanto anyway, he might as well go ahead and shop in Celadon, right
( ... )
Red almost missed his name being called while he was staring at two of the workers who had no idea how to install the air pump for the inflatable Santa. He blinked then turned around, hoping he didn't miss whoever it was. His eyes fell on a waving figure; it wasn't until the person was closer that Red remembered meeting him before. In fact, wasn't it near here?
"Oh..." he recognized the boy who was with the blond trainer who ran into Leaf. This one was the polite one. "Lucas, right? Hey." Red raised his free arm up in a short wave. "What brings you here?"
Red remembered his name! Lucas tried not to look too obviously pleased and nodded. "Yeah, that's me."
He blinked at the question, and gave a short embarrassed laugh, readjusting his scarf again. "I'm shopping for a present for someone. I was in Kanto to visit the libraries, but since the holidays are coming soon, I figured I'd go ahead and shop here." He looked past Red to watch the workers struggle with the rapidly deflating Santa, curious. "So what are you doing? You work for the League, don't you?"
Red turned to follow Lucas' gaze just in case something happened (or to see if anything was flying at his head), then turned back to the young trainer. "Yeah. The League pays for part of the display, so they want someone to make sure it's done right. I got the job this time." He flipped through the pages on his clipboard to the sheet showing the placement of all the pieces and held it towards Lucas to see. "The tree's in the middle and everything goes around it, so it looks the same wherever you're standing."
He placed the clipboard back under one arm. "Well... almost the same." He scratched his head through his hat while looking back at the flat Santa. "How's shopping?" He gave Lucas a sympathetic smile.
Red was just turning around from tossing a cup into a trash can when someone crashed into his back. The jolt shook the clipboard from his arm as he stumbled forward a few steps to keep his balance. He had expected the crowd to be pretty wild, but he thought he was careful to be unnoticed as he left the construction grounds to take care of litter.
He heard a familiar voice behind him apologizing and then his name. Turning around to face the source, he blinked in surprise. "Ethan..." He stood for a moment, then took the clipboard back. "Oh, thanks," he smiled kindly back. "Hey, I wasn't expecting to see you. What are you doing here?" He looked between the younger trainer and his Typhlosion.
