Good to see you're still bringing in the subtext with these two, Butcher. No wonder I still ship Max/Tavi/Kitai like it's my freaking job.

So I just spoiled myself hard for anything past Fires, but what now? Butcher's writing another male protagonist with non-heteronormative subtext? Does he do it right this time?

I don't think it's non-heteronormative (I mean, one of the minor characterizations is Amara feeling inadequate because she is barren), but it is less offensive in this series, and his gender roles and relationships in this are definitely better than in the Dresden Files.

The relationship between those three is very cozy and easy, so shipping them is no hardship. They are always together, even when they were at the Academy, and the book makes it clear that Max is a constant part of Tavi and Kita's life. And Max and Kitai fight over Tavi in one of the books, at one point Max arguing that Tavi is his and Kitai countering with the fact that she had him first. I love them a lot.

OH, MICHAEL SHEEN. He is so amazing and then he does Underworld and Twilight, and I am baffled yet charmed, despite myself. So odd.

Did you see him as Wesley Snipes in 30 Rock? I lose it every time I watch those episodes again. He is fantastic!
