I just discovered that the word for "praying mantis" is "mantis religiosa."

Just saw the worst accident I think I've ever seen.  Two cabs going into the same intersection (one running a red light) smashed into each other pretty hard.  The one kind of just stopped, having transferred its momentum to the other, which ended up facing 180 from the way it'd been going, in addition to being pushed several feet sideways by the ( Read more... )

So Parkour has changed the way I look at the world.  As I was walking down the street the other day, I caught myself looking at fences and walls and buildings as I passed, calculating whether I could run or jump or climb up them, or how easy it would be to get over this or that.  It's kind of amazing ( Read more... )

So tangoing is really cool. It's kind of like martial arts, in that you have a whole bunch of moves you can use and you just have to learn when to "throw" them... only with less kicking people in the face. Well, so class continues to go smoothly.  It's only been two weeks, and already I can form full sentences... so long as the topic is basic.  Having a decent vocabulary upon arrival has proven to be more helpful than I thought.  I no longer feel uncomfortable going into restaurants! ^_ ( Read more... )

So I've got this combination coughing/nose-clogging/voice-altering thing going on. My flatmate tried to blame it on the air pollution here, but I was skeptical because I had a sore throat at the onset... and this morning she finally updated her opinion to "sick, AND polluted."
