So I got this job last week, working for a company that sells telescopes. It's an admin position, and I have zero admin experience, but I like astronomy and have a couple of telescopes, so they hired me. In my experience, you never know how a job is going to end up, even if you think you do. So enjoy the job while you have it, but it could very well end up lasting a long time. Also, even if they do have to let you go, you're getting experience that could lead to another admin job (maybe even an admin for an astronomy professor) that will still keep you out of the food service industry.

That sounds like a fun job. And new skills for the resume are always nice.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about your potential. A friend of mine just got a sales position at a scientific supply company after finishing her degree and she totally hates it. The office environment is sucking her life out of her and she wants to quit and go back to academia. But that company was in a really competitive area where outsourcing, cutting corners, and undercutting was rampart. If you like the environment where you're at it could be an indication of a healthier workplace and market. If that's the case then there's lots of room for you grow into the position. If they've invested into you this far without a problem, then that means the bosses think you can do it. They're experienced on the matter, so that tells me that you can probably do it.

Thank you, but as I told you the other day, it's an internship now because I got kind-of fired. So they're investing nothing in me. But that's okay. It's fun.
