I've certainly heard of them, but I don't think I've ever actually heard them. What am I missing?

I'll do that. I'm always on the lookout for new bands and new music, but it's getting harder and harder to find anything I like. Most music nowadays sounds very samey and generic to me, like it's designed specifically to appeal to a particular niche genre.
