The London Blog! (Part 1 of 687)

Oct 12, 2006 20:04

AS PROMISED!...this is the first official installment of my London blog. Be afraid. Since I never do what I’m told, and always manage to make things much weirder and more awkward than they have to be, I’ve called this “The A-B-C and 1-2-3 of London.” If that sounds kind of strange to you, don’t worry. It’s incredibly strange. But if you read it, ( Read more... )

I'm so bad. I had no idea you were coming to London. But might I interest you in another word we like to use this side of the pond? And my personal favourite, at that. The word is "bollocks". Very rounded (pun intended), very satisfying, and can be used for so many different things.

Oh, and try Camden Town for shopping, far less pretentious than Oxford Street and lots more interesting people to look at.

I do enjoy bollocks. But not in that way or anything.

I haven't been to Camden Town during the day, which I hear is pretty great, but I have been there during the night on my way back from a club and in the early morning when I went running. Those were the times when the portable markets weren't set up I guess, so all it was was a bunch of Chavs and tattoo parlors staring me down the whole time.

Yes I do and since she's been there 30 years(after leaving from Trinidad) she has this thick British accent. It was quite a surprise when she called and I heard her voice for the first time "MOM there's this british lady who wants to talk to you and she keeps calling me 'luv' D:!!!!!"

Isn't it weird how that happens?? I've only been here three weeks, and if I haven't acquired a full-on British accent, I'm at least starting to pick up some of their vocal inflections. It would be neat to have a British accent, wouldn't it? We'd get all the ladies (or men in your case).

Wouldn't it be great if we could just hop on a cloud or something like that whenever we felt like it and end up in another country?

I missed London) I liked Oxford street too. I made wonderful shopping there, as at that time there were great sales=)
As for prices, yes London is very expensive. I also spent a huge sum of money on CD, some books and...taxy.
So, do you miss you home?

I forgot to mention the Oxford Street sales. My friend bought some incredible basketball shoes for 9 quid! The other way I can save money is to say that I'm taking my food and drink to go, instead of eating it there, so I don't have to pay the tax ;)

I have thoughts of missing home once in a while, but they don't last long. I know by the end of the term I'll be missing it a lot, but then I'll be home again and missing England terribly.

I don't know how it is in US but in England if you in cafe ask tab water it's free) in Russia we won't drink tab water, so for me it was very unusual

Hey, you! We're on the same island right now!

I'm the only Jew people know too. It weirds me out a little. I mean, what do you say when someone asks what judiasm *is?* Also...Scotland has a lot of Spittal streets. Yeah. Why? Dunno.

Cool!

It's admittedly a pretty loaded question, sort of like whem someone asks you what life is, or what casserole is (o_O). And it doesn't help that I'm not very good at explaining it. Whether that has to do with the broadness of the topic or my own lack of knowledge on it is up for debate.

Hmm, maybe there was a guy named Thag Spittal who, in 12,000 B.C., duked it out with a fellow caveman over control of Scotland. If Thag hadn't won the great battle, everyone in Scotland would be wearing giant duck suits and made to whistle "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" 24 hours a day. Our hero, Thag Spittal.
