Apparently on Wednesday night when he *did* perform, it was mentioned that he has tracheitis. It's a very serious bacterial infection that is rare in adults.
I can't help but wonder if he damaged his health further by coming out and performing before he was well. Reports from the night he did perform make it pretty clear he was still sick.
One of the reports I read about this condition comment that setbacks can occur if the affected area is jostled too much. *sighs*
I'm just hoping he has since acquired a babysitter to make sure he doesn't try such a boneheaded stunt again until he's completely well.

That is so true! And most people tend to not take sicknesses serious enough if it would make them step back from something important. I know I've done that mistake, lots of friends have done it, my colleagues have...and it always comes back to bite you in the behind in the end.
I was looking forward to a splendid final night and a triumphant end to this production for Colin. The final night will be splendid but without Colin. This is not the ending that anyone wanted.
I've long thought that The Globe has two problems: (1) the outdoors and (2) the the number of days between performances i.e. 62 performance in 17 weeks is not quite 4 per week. I fear these two factors have not helped Colin overcome a throat/chest illness?
I'm praying that his next project comes along quickly, is indoors, and quite frankly is more successful.
How about some more Shakespeare but this time in beautiful Stratford-Upon-Avon?
Agreed on all of this, however Colin does not help himself at all because he takes like NO time off between projects. There is only so long someone can keep going with the afterburners on 11 before something gives out.
For Colin, it was his immune system. Tracheitis is usually a childhood disease. A nurse friend of mine said that for an adult to have this problem, it would have to be the result of a very run down immune system.
his immune system might not be the best, remember a cooment Bradley James made: "he is allergic to everything!!" think it was commenting the pillory scene where Merlin is pelted with rotten veggies.
It might be a little unfair to surmise anything about Colin Morgan's immune system from a throwaway sarcastic comment Bradley James made in Season 1 of Merlin. As far as we know, as Colin himself has said, he's lactose-intolerant. He denied that he was allergic to tomatoes, and he is a vegetarian, presumably by choice.

We'll all keep our fingers crossed for him :-).
