Death happens, as we like to say. And when I am paid for it, death happens more often.

[Filtered FROM: Drones, Conrad and Seychelles]To the man who assaulted my friend with Casimiro - Fin, I believe he called you? I gave your partner full warning of the consequences if he attacked Conrad, and as that did not stop him, I took that as an acceptance of my terms ( Read more... )

Zevran Arainai. And I had hoped your friend would not force my hand this way, but he made it quite clear this is the only language he will understand.

Just as Mr. Achenleck made it quite clear that the only method he understands is violence as well. A broken nose and perhaps a few cracked ribs are nothing to a vampire, nothing a meal could fix. You, on the other hand, took it a step too far. And as obvious a trap you are setting, I will take the bait.

I have something I must do before I find you and finish what you started. If this evening sounds good to you, I'd rather I finish you then.

[A pause.]

I do hope you realize you've made it worst on the boy, Mr. Arainai.

Are we even talking about the same man? I may be fond of Conrad, but I am aware of his flaws. He could probably be intimidated by a strongly worded letter. From the discussion I had with your partner, it seems as though you two simply enjoy violence on little provocation and have been in particularly foul moods since your arrival, so you took it out on Conrad for acting exactly as he always has.

Regardless, I could no more let your attacking him go unanswered than your partner could let his irritating you go unanswered, or you let my attacking Casimiro go unanswered. And death is no more inconvenient here than what you have done to Conrad; Casimiro will return tomorrow morning. Dealing in death simply happens to be my specialty, and your friend refused to be dissuaded by anything less. I did try to reason with him first ( ... )

I did tell him to practice on me. Now what sort of trouble are you getting into on his behalf?

Killing vampires, it would seem. I am not entirely surprised Conrad has made enemies, with that rather surly attitude of his...but it hardly calls for a beating. By two men, no less! One might as well kick a kitten when it scratches you.

Of course, murdering a man over a beating is hardly a proportionate punishment, either...but death is temporary here, and he simply refused to be dissuaded in any other manner.

He is rather harmless that way. Perhaps these are the sort of men who enjoy kicking kittens.

Still, you should be a smidgen more careful lest you start up some sort of murder war.

[As if she weren't already in one of those.]

From my attempts to reason with Casimiro, I would say that is a fairly accurate description of them.

But who would be better suited for a murder war than I? I have done both! Certainly I can combine the two easily enough.

Is it...common to be so open about what you do in your world?

Well, in Antiva, the Crows are quite an open secret. Certainly no one would attempt to attack a Crow unless they were very sure of themselves, lest they be murdered themselves in retaliation.

But no, we do not usually announce our kills in so open a manner. Usually we let the work speak for us - and it does prevent anyone seeking revenge on us personally if the victim's friends and family know only that the Crows are responsible, not which of us in particular dealt the killing blow.

But in this case...it is meant to be a lure. There were two men involved, and two punishments to be dealt. I don't know enough to find this partner of Casimiro's myself, so I will invite him to come to me.

I guess so, then again, I'm kinda fond of bait tactics. Open secret huh? Must be nice.

It was, in its way. You got respect, wine, women, men...but there was no freedom, to be perfectly honest. All things come at a price, and most of the Crows are not given the opportunity to decide whether they wish to pay it or not. My life has been somewhat less hedonistic since I left, but more enjoyable in many ways.
