Trip Report Part One: Snowcamping with the Banana

Feb 19, 2009 09:43

Been a whirlwind of a week, and I'm posting from a coffeshop/bookstore in San Angelo, Texas. That's in West Texas, out past Abilene, near...nothing else. We'll get to that, but first, the start of Adventure Week:

It was her 18th birthday right on the heels of Valentine's Day, after all. Aside from adding to her adventure collection, I thought it ( Read more... )

Hey, I have a field trip to San Angelo in April!

If you're bored, feel free to road trip to Lubbock ;) Seriously. Not that there's much to see or do in Lubbock either, but there are some decent restaurants and a crazy rzyna lurking about. Drop me an email if you decide to consider it. Absolutely no pressure, but the invitation stands if you feel like driving 3 hours.

ooo! Maybe I can get back out here in April! I would love to take a road trip, but it won't happen this trip. Which is disappointing, but I was truly dismayed by a whole day of delays getting her, then it really IS 4.5 hours to get to the airporit (so 6.5 on the return trip to make my flight)...and this wasn't a long trip to start with, so it's less visiting time with my Mango than expected.

I will plan better next time, and FLY into San Angelo - the rental cost more than the extra flight *sigh.* Lesson learned, and all that. Bleah.

Beautiful country between here & Abilene, but San Angelo itself is much more run down than other little towns along the way, which I find curious. What do you "get" to come out her for?

No problem, I completely understand and of course family always comes first. I wanted to toss the invitation out there though, once I realized you were only about 3 hours away! It still stands any time you're back in the area. I'll be living in Lubbock for all of 2009.

There's an art museum in San Angelo, apparently, and it has a really good education program, so we're going to visit it for my museum education class. I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with the fact that my professor got her start in museum education/art education at said museum. Looks like this is the place if you're looking for something to do in San Angelo.

Ooo! There's also a chicken farm art museum. I think I need visual confirmation of it. I'll definitely be back out, and make a point to plan better. You just can't have 5 hours of driving to/from airports on such a short trip. So I'll check in with you when I get to return!
:-)

P.S. I'm sure you're right about the reason for the museum visit. Hee!

Alright, I'm a desert rat born and bred, but that looks really cool. Well, cold, really, but a lot of fun.

It *is* a lot of fun. We had 2 people fly in from Salt Lake City to do it!
