That's quite the adventure story, Ben!

Look forward to seeing what your new baby can do...Canon Elphs are great digital cameras - portable, good quality and durable (well, mine has survived rough treatment, anyway)

Rough treatment?!? I am treating my camera like a fragile porecelain figurine, like a fine aged bottle of wine, like a dainty delicate woman :). Yeah..I even bought the special protective case. I don't think I would have the stomache to buy another Elph in anything happened to my current one. Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks mb, that's comforting support coming from an erudite technophile as yourself. But yeah, not something I'd like to go through again. Hope you and Hi-Fi never have to experience one when you have to spend time in Taiepi.

It's about time you got a new camera. And I'm not talking about that big ass video camcorder that you have.

But yes, you had me on the edge of my seat with your typhoon story.

You are right. That video camera was a total bitch to carry around in my pocket. It begged the question, "Is that gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" My answer would always be, "Neither. Canon."

Sure there is...like I said before. Track the price fluctuations with www.nextag.com Do a search for Canon SD400 and catch it when the camera price is at its lowest. You'll notice in the graph that in that last few months the average price has fallen from $400 US to $320 US. Mind you I asked, and many of these places charge $14 US if not more for shipping especially to Canada. The place I bought it from offered free shipping within the USA but it would take at least a week. I phoned them and they told me it would cost a whopping $60 US to ship the same camera to Canada. So what I did instead was buy it and have it shipped for free to my friend in NYC. When he came to visit he brought the camera with him past customs. And again in all with tax and shipping the approximate price of my purchase was about $390 Canadian. Watch out, prices constantly fluctuate so catch it at the right time. You can almost be guaranteed that this thing will be cheaper in the next few months as all technology will. Didn't you say you had friends ( ... )

Dude...I didn't even bother with all that crap. All I got was the camera. I didn't need a memory card as I had one already. You can get them pretty cheap these days. I don't really need a card reader as my computer does that as does my DVD player. Besides, I think there is a feature that allows you to connect your camera directly to the TV. Lens cleaning kit?!? Are you kidding me?? Spit and polish is good enough(j/k). The stylish camera case I separately got for $20 Canadian already had a feature that protected the LCD screen. Not sure how much a flimsy cover would do. And how often will you use a tripod?

My advice...don't them sucker you into getting all these overpriced extras. I just went for the Camera. If you go to www.beachcamera.com, their service and delivery is impeccable...as it is free. I just waited till their selling price was cheaper. Apparently I bought it for less than they are selling it now. Be patient my friend...the prices will continue to fall...
