Inadequate Reach

I climbed the maximum height
permitted by the ladder,
permitted by the yellow-tagged display,
disappointed that three more inches
would have satisfied the job,
satisfied the act,
to change the fixture from dim to light
and allow my return to mourning,
which can only commence in light.
