With the Power Ball lottery pushing $0.5Billion*, I decided to share some of my “billion dollar projects,” that is projects that I might undertake if I had a billion or more dollars that I could throw at some project without regard to their ability to actually make any money.  These aren’t necessarily projects that would loose money, but I wouldn’t

Among mine would be to buy some DMUs (like the Sprinters) and pay Union Pacific to upgrade the Fallon branch, then start operating service Reno-Sparks-Fernley-Fallon. Although the historical station was right across from my house (which would be convenient), I have to say that a more sensible location for a new Fernley Station would be down near the Black Bear Diner further east; there's room for the parking lot you'd need, for instance.

The project would almost certainly require paying for doubling of the tracks in the Truckee River Canyon east of Sparks and then on through Hazen siding, which might just eat up a significant chunk of the funding.
