So, I was driving to work this morning and this guy cut me off... Or... actually, he was in front of me, changed lanes because he thought the lane to the right of us was going faster, decided it wasn't, started to swerve into my lane in front of me, decided I was too close to do it, decided he didn't care and then cut me off. As I was cursing him

you are pretty much at fault any time you rear end someone. while few people do, esp on freeways in rush hour, it's your fault if the car in front of you hits their brakes and you run into them

(if someone changes lanes in front of you and does it, it's a bit different, but "for the most part")

so you don't really need to worry about it
but you should be able to call the CHP and identify where/when the accident was if you wanted to do that

i hear CHP operators are decently nice, so they'll probably just take your information even if it doesnt matter
