Your posting was well articulated. You mentioned Eustace's death as suicide and that perhaps the father's death was as well. I had not thought of this but it adds interesting speculation as I ponder "The Boat" story.

I really enjoyed your post on "The Boat". I never imagined that the father may have commited suicide, but it seems as though the importance of his son following his own path really started to wear on the father towards the end.

Great analysis. I like your reference between the father and Ahab and how the sea consumed them both. Well thought of!

Great literature has many layers of meaning, and I like how you went a step deeper than the obvious in your analysis. I reread the ending of "The Boat" with your comments in mind, and your suspicions fit. Thanks for helping me think about this story in a different way.

I really enjoyed your thought that perhaps the father may have infact committed suicide because he was so unhappy with his life. This had also crossed my mind, because there was no description of how he fell out of the boat, just that he was gone. It was a very interesting analysis!
