Oh, what a wonderful feeling!

I wrote a snippet of fic this evening, scribbled on a paper carrier bag because that was the only paper I had upstairs and if I don't write things down the instant they come to me, they tend to be gone for ever.

I don't know if it'll ever become anything, still less whether I'll ever post it anywhere, but for the record, it's Freddie and Bel from ( Read more... )

My mother and I were talking about you just yesterday. She was asking how you were. :)

You can let your mother know that your lj friend from Malta says hello. ;)

Are you at the same address? I'm getting my cards ready. No need to send one in return. :)

Same address, yes. Cards may or may not happen this year since I still haven't got round to sending any, despite having bought stamps well in advance.

Didn't go and see Skyfall today after all - so your fic's still on hold. Both things are making me very impatient!

I can imagine! I think we went to see it the day it came out... and I totally fell in love with it. It took a few days before Pim admitted she was scouring the Net for fic - but so was I. And looking for pictures. All that stuff. I even made myself a tymblr page dedicated to the subject at http://fajrdrako007.tumblr.com/ - but don't look till you've seen the movie.

Waaah! You're making it worse! I think I should go and watch Ben Whishaw in something...

Welcome back! I am planning to watch The Hour and now I have more incentive ;-)

Hi! And thanks for the welcome back. :)

As for The Hour, I'm loving the second series. Please do watch it, and then come and talk about it with me! I've been trying to sell it to fajrdrako over on her journal. She's fallen for Q as played by Ben Whishaw, who also plays Freddie, so that may serve as a hook. ;)

BTW, try and avoid the version that aired in the US, since apparently stuff was cut to get the episodes down to 45 mins in order to make space for advertising. Gah, I can't understand how they can do this!

Among other things, US viewers missed seeing Freddie in the bath. Quite apart from giving us a half-naked Ben Whishaw, (who may or may not float your boat), the scene was making a point about his relationship with Bel and about how other characters saw them. Grrrrr.

Hooray for the stirrings of fic! It's a good feeling, isn't it? Even if it doesn't come to anything, it's still worth capturing those voices in your head, just for the satisfaction, whether the story is ever completed or not. And inspiration does tend to come just when you least expect it - and often for unexpected things. Just enjoy the muse while it lasts is my usual mottot!

Why does inspiration strike at impossible moments? I suspect it's part of the perversity of life.
Oh, totally!

Nice to see you posting :)

"The stirrings of fic" is a good way of putting it. I'm curious now - what's the strangest or most inappropriate thing you've ever written fic on? Or the most inappropriate location or occasion?

Mine would be the official concluding meeting of an-EU funded project I was involved in a few years back. The meeting was in Ragusa, in Sicily, with various governmental bigwigs present, and it was just so damn boring! I looked as if I was diligently taking notes. In actual fact I was writing a missing scene from the Retribution episode of Hornblower - Archie having a panic attack and being force-fed laudanum by Dr Clive between the end of the trial and the next (and last!) time he sees Horatio. Cheerful stuff!

Heeeeeee! I've become desperate walking to and from work because there was a scene dancing in my head that I knew wouldn't last till I reached my destination, so I had to find a place to stop, delve in my bag for a scrap of paper and pencil stub, then scrawled out as much detail as I could fit on that scrap...and thereafter always made sure to have some kind of notepad in my bag at all times.

I so wish I could write fic in official meetings, but alas I am usually taking minutes in those so someone would probably notice if I wrote something else and then had no idea what had actually been said!

Sounds like we do similar things at work - University administration, right? I moved on from working on projects (the travel was fun but my boss was a selfish pig) to administration of an Institute that functions like a mini-Faculty. Institute Board meeting this week, and like you, I'll be concentrating on frantically taking notes - coherent and accurate minutes are my speciality!
