What I am learning

My point of view affects my perception of reality. That is to say, if I believe I am stupid, then I perceive that those things that I do and say are stupid. The reality may in fact be quite different. I may have a string of degrees to my name and an above average IQ level. I know that feeling, helps to quietly list one's accomplishments and skills and lack of stupidity to oneself, as reassurance. At least in my case. Having someone available for a reality check helps too, "am I stupid or is it them being weird?"

It's funny that you mention negative beliefs. I think most over-achievers have similar thoughts about things. Last night, after my Governmental/Non-profit Accounting class, we took this quiz at the end of class. For some questions, I knew the answers for sure, and other questions, I thought I knew the answers, but wasn't 100% sure and second-guessed myself. After I turned in the quiz (I was the last one left because I couldn't make up my mind), it turned out that out of the two questions I struggled with, I ended up getting them both wrong, even though I KNEW the right answers. Subsequently, I remember being pretty angry and thinking in my head that I was stupid. This morning, the class got an email from the professor saying that all of the quiz grades were bad, and apparently there were some 'holes in our understanding.' I think the questions were actually off the CPA exam, which scares me even more :). Anyway, the bottom line is that sometimes I believe that I'm stupid because I get marks lower than my expectations, but now that I ( ... )

problem is, there is reality. there is one reality, even if you are saying that there's only perception. that still makes only one reality. for everyone. perception.
