My readathon continues. I'm now onto The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. I'm not too enthusiastic about this one so far. I'll have to wait and see whether it engages me.

I've just completed Zadie Smith's 'On Beauty'. What a wonderful book! It really stretched my vocabulary - there were a significant number of words I had to look up in the dictionary. Slightly disappointed by its conclusion. Not quite as rounded off as I'd have liked. Apart from that, the characters, language, style, dialogue, pace were all fabulous

Of text, italics and ellipses, Zadie Smith says "Slanted snails blowing about on perforated seas". I love this image.

Just finished The Colour of Law. It's a great debut novel for Mark Gimenez with a lot of heart. It even brought a tear or two to my eyes. I heartily recommend.

So today I finished The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.

It was clear to me from the start that The Sinner had been written by a woman. That I didn't mind at all. It made for a really interesting contrast to The Blood Hunt by Ian Rankin, which I finished earlier in the week. Both are thrillers. But this one was so ( Read more... )
