claymation online

If you're still out there...a long time ago I promised a link to the claymation video we made. Here 'tis.

REMOVED LINK

This is the first and only stop motion animation I've ever attempted. We're still fixing up the house and I'm going to grad school in non-fiction writing so I don't have much time for animation.

Hi Nori. Congrats on getting accepted into the program. I also got into the creative writing at UBC, but then started doubting the whole idea of having somebody teach you how to write. Do you ever have those doubts?

Yes, I do wonder about that. A lot of famous writers have cautioned people not to go to graduate school because you'll just be learning someone else's idea of what writing should be. I struggled with this, but I feel that for me it is the right decision. I need structure and deadlines in order to be productive. I know I will grow as a writer, and produce more work I am proud of, if I am surrounded by other writers and have assignments to complete. It seems to me that by traveling and writing about your travels, you are accomplishing the same thing in a more romantic way, though. It's a dilemma. I'll be interested to see what you decide...

Yes, like Doris Lessing for example...I have already written to the school and said I will not be able to attent, but maybe will try in the future. I think being around a group of encouraging, like-minded people that offer good critique of your work is what it is all about. Online education is a different species altogether though. And I am still waiting for that Shanghai romance teaser!

Hey, that was very funny! Enjoyed it immensely. You guys are talented, and the satire was aimed well. Congrats on deciding on the writing program; non-fiction, though? That's somewhat surprising -- something like journalism school? I'm enjoying the new job so far though it's been pretty hard to get any reporting done here this week, what with Chinese New Year and all. Hope the house is shaping up and keep in touch!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. My two younger brothers did the vocals and drums. I wish I was in China for New Years. There's a silly TV show here called "The Amazing Race" and they were in Shanghai and Xi'an for the finale - it made me nostalgic. I chose non-fiction because I had more writing finished in that genre. I wrote some travel essays about China, Vietnam and Alaska and interviewed some of my more interesting friends. I'm taking a Magazine Writing class and thoroughly enjoying it. I think I'm going to do a story on female bloggers out of China for my final piece. Maybe I'll email you a few questions. Good luck getting the new job going!
