[+] Love in a Cold Climate

Jun 21, 2006 13:03

I have fallen in love with yet another period film/miniseries (what a surprise). This time it is "Love in a Cold Climate" that has captured my imagination, directed by the wonderful Tom Hooper (Daniel Deronda, Elizabeth I) and starring Rosamund Pike, Elisabeth Dermot-Walsh, Megan Dodds, Christian Coulson and Alan Bates (among many, many other great ( Read more... )

Thank you! Have you seen this? The Communism icon is even funnier in context, haha. I'm glad you appreciated it! And thanks for the feedback--I can always count on you to notice my colouring :D!

Oooh! And I totally used your tips from your tutorial for these, and for the last few icon sets of mine. It really helps ♥!

These are remarkable! Where you've shot for a more pop-art look, the impact is impressive (#s 15, 17, 19, 20, 23, 25 and 27). #23 and #25 especially remind me of a war-era magazine ad. And your textless icons, as always, are terrific. I'm reminded so much of Maggie with these!

The ones I'm not too sure about, knowing your style, are the ones where you've blocked off color (2, 22, 31). They're fine icons, to be sure, but they just don't seem like they belong with the crisp, bright, lush Maggie-el-icon-maker-extraordinaire I'm used to.

Also, what are your intentions with the one-pixel border? Just curious.

My favorites, graphically and personally, are 12, 24, and 27.

Hope that wasn't too presumptuous of me to offer so much in the way of critiquing, but you asked for honesty. ;)

That is exactly what I wanted to know, actually. The reason I 'tried out' the whole color block thing was because I was wondering if it would be better to not have to crop certain images to 100x100 and instead leave some blank color--not really my style, as you noted, but something to try. I'm not sure I am sold on the results: as you point out, it's not exactly distinctively 'Maggie' :D.

As far as the one pixel border... I dunno... I've been doing that for a while, and I think I just like finishing off the icons cleanly with a border, but not one that takes anything away from the image space-wise. I'm getting a little more sporadic with my borders lately, but the one pixel has served me well so far ;).

I'm glad you liked the pop art style, they were fun to make!

Your comments are very helpful and just what I was looking for as far as constructive criticism *hugs*!

I like the new style- it retains the hue/saturation that I like about (and associate with) your icons, but it feels different (good different!).

As far as picking previews...I think 4 and 25 were good choices. I would have picked from 11, 12, 13, 18, or 28 for the final one, because that seems to give a preview from every subgroup of icons (multiple people, one person, and then close-up expressive faces). But, honestly, any one of these icons would be good enough to entice me to click onward :)

I am in love with #12 (gorgeousgorgeousgorgeousOMG), but the color difference between the eyes is bothering me a bit. That's the only little picky thing that I can find to say- your icons continue to amaze me!

I'm glad I've achieved something a bit different with these, especially if it is good different :)!

Thanks for the advice, I'm never sure which icons represent the spectrum of the icons available so it's good to have an outside opinion!

I was kind of annoyed by the eye color difference as well, but unfortunately that's how it looks on the film/screen capture because there is a shadow being cast over that eye... I just went back and tried to fix it a bit, I hope it looks more aesthetically pleasing now :)!

Thanks for commenting ♥! I think you'll have to watch this film with me in the fall (or sooner)--it has bunnies in it!
