The folks at TWoP are making (shockingly) sane points about the way things will likely turn out, and the greater context of events and arcs and all that shit, but I'm still miffed by the scene alone. That's just not the way Fringe works (or should work). Compressing complicated situations and characters into overly-simplified caricatures for the sake of a plot device?

Or maybe that's just the way Sam Weiss thinks. Maybe he's full of shit.

I don't know; I just hope the show makes a turn for the smart and not the dumb displayed here.

Humbug!

Even though I've been with Fringe since the beginning, I haven't loved it every step of the way. Maybe because of that I'm less likely to give it the benefit of the doubt in a moment like that bowling alley scene.

I too hope it takes a turn for the smart. I hate that I'm already rolling my eyes in anticipation of the remainder of the season. Hopefully some reading at TWoP can change my perspective.

Yeeeeah, I kind of hate and love that at the same time. Mostly because I can't just hate since Fringe is generally too awesome to be that...terrible?

With the ratings on shaky ground this season, I can't imagine they'd pretend to have a silly plot point like that just so they could a-ha! us later, but maybe they really are just messing with us. Regardless, I'm sure it'll be a little more complex and interesting than Peter making an Olivia choice. Probably. Hopefully.

Oh sweet merciful jesus, seriously?!

*hangs head in shame* I've fallen behind with Fringe. I haven't seen the last three episodes and reading about them over on TWOP, I just can't summon up enough enthusiasm to go and find them.

Peter, Peter, Peter, ad nauseum. Didn't we do this dance last season already? I've tried to love the show, I really have but I think I must come to terms with the fact that I just don't! Maybe I'll have a Fringe!Binge and catch up but I'm really not holding my breath...

Yes, seriously.

I can see why you've fallen behind. I think I've liked this season more than last season because Olivia's back in play (even if she's been fauxlivia half the time), but the relationship being pushed into the center of everything is a rather disappointing turn.

At this point, I don't even know if I've got anything at stake in this show because I'm not invested at all in the Peter/Olivia relationship. It wasn't developed well enough for me to care. Maybe it plays better to people who watch the show for the ship? If the show continues down the path it seems to have set up now, I can't see myself being happy with the season (series?) finale.

It would be nice if he was playing Nina, but wouldn't that mean he's trying to get Nina to play matchmaker? If Nina thinks the fate of the universe she's in depends on Peter having feelings for Olivia, then she's going to want Peter and Olivia to get together. That leaves us basically where we are now anyway, right?

I guess the real question is why it's so important for Peter and Olivia to be together. It's a question that I don't care so much about. The show could surprise me though, and there could be some amazing story ahead that will make me care. I really hope so, but I think the story is heading towards saving both universes... because of love. Aw, so sweet. *punch*

I hate the whole “emotions can determine the universe” plotlines in any story, it’s too Japanese for me to usually stomach, but I seem to forgive Fringe a lot of these moments because it’s just too awesome.

This show loves to inflict pain on its main characters and I take a perverse pleasure in it, take Olivia for example, she’s so worried about the fact the other Olivia is a better version than her, she has overlooked the fact that since she also has her memories and experiences she is the sum total of the two, but she is so damaged she sublimates the very part that can help herself.

But it’s so obviously still there; the very fact that average shooter Olivia became Olympic standard shooter Olivia proved that!

I keep forgetting she's still got fauxlivia's memories. You'd think that would be affecting her more! I guess it'll come more into play as the finale closes in. Wasn't she always a crack shot, though? That was a great shot she made in this episode, but it didn't jump out at me as something Olivia couldn't do before. I'm not sure it would make sense for a physical skill to translate through memory anyway.

Well, they did make a point in asking her how good of a shot she was and the answer she gave was less than enthusiastic.

The point is Fauxlivia “was” a crack shot, an important difference between them, that was not a revelation because when Olivia was brainwashed with her others memories she had all her others skillsets as well, she just rejects that part of her now because she wants to differentiate herself from what she considers an imposter and because she hates how Fauxlivia so easily took over her life without anyone noticing.

But it’s still all there, lurking in her subconscious and I’m taking the “shot” she made as proof we were meant to see that it was all still there.

Fair enough. I guess we're supposed to believe that getting someone's memories gives us the skills and feelings and everything. I give the show a pass on most of its other silly science, I guess I can allow that too ;)

Now I have to wonder why Olivia isn't more conflicted about her feelings for Peter. I don't buy so much angst over such a short-term relationship anyway, but I think we're supposed to believe Olivia really cared about Peter. Since she has Fauxlivia's memories, shouldn't she also really care about Fauxlivia's boyfriend? Or maybe Faulivia never cared about her boyfriend at all?

Argh I think making Fringe all about Peter/Olivia (and Fauxlivia) is where the show has gone very wrong. Used to love this show. Why did they have to go and do this?
