The News of the World pays, often in the six-figure range, for photos and other information that reveals famous people engaging in scandalous behavior.
That explains famous people, but I have noticed over the years many people taking pictures of others or allowing themselves to be photographed getting high.
Paris Hilton allowed people to record herself doing all kinds of sexual acts. You have to wonder about that but I have to admit if Paris Hilton was hooking me up and recording it I would drive the distribution truck that was dropping the tapes off at the video stores. I would be famous overnight.
I think it has to do with sensational journalism, and how the media loves to cover people while they're on the up-and-up, but its more profitable to expose them doing the juicy stuff.
I think they're just trying to knock him down a few pegs since everyone labeled him the golden boy for bringing back all the medals from the Olympics.
Plus its only pot. Its not like he was soliciting hookers or doing crack-cocaine.
It is was a illegal acthljeterFebruary 9 2009, 02:56:11 UTC
Saying it was just pot is half the issue. Just like saying the 19 year old only had 2 beers before they got behind the wheel of the car. The problem with society is if people think certain laws are stupid they tend to ignore them. They only worry about the punishment if they get caught! Naturally when I was a teenager I did all the things I was suppose not to do and I look bad at those moments and say what a dumb *ss I was. Phelps is not a teenager. He is adult who happens to be one of the biggest role models of this decade. What he did was so dumb and stupid it was beyond compare. He just cost himself millions of dollars and his golden boy reputation. That was one very expensive joint!!!
A lack of judgment? Clearly. A lack of judgment because people are high? I'm not buying it. I think it's a lack of intelligence, or at a minimum a lack of foresight . I think intelligent people who get high don’t take pictures of this stuff.
There seems to be fascination by some of taking a picture of someone getting high, or worse yet a NEED to take that picture. There is the so-called plausible explanation - That it is "funny". BS. The only thing I am coming up with here is some sort of confirmation or proof that someone else is conforming to a behavior, so that YOU feel more comfortable about the behavior yourself.
As for the person taking a picture of MP, with his back turned, I hope he falls into an open manhole while walking back from the bank.
It was obvious Phelps did not know he was being filmed. Guys like Phelps needs to remember that everyone wants a piece of him. The media wants look up his hiney with a telescope never mind a microscope. Phelps should have known better. He engaged in a illegal act in the public eye. It was not the dope. It was he was just not thinking!!! Just like those soldiers in Iraq who took pictures of the human pyramids and posted them online. You get lost in the excitement and your brain turns off for a few minutes.
Yeah...I think the lack of judgement while high kind of plays into it...but still, if it were me, I would never want pictures of me like that. Well, I don't let people take pictures of me, period, so...
I would get the picture eliminated. It serves no good purpose.
I am not predicting doom for all that are photographed. I am more scratching my head about the purpose people feel the need to pull out a camera. The best answer I get is "duh, I don't know, why are you being so negative about it?" I am not specifically questioning Sara, because I have no idea why she has pictures of this. But I seriously question the motivation in general of some people behind photographing it.
I am sure you just need to google Michael Phelps Pot Picture to see it.
Jealously and such. Phelps is somebody and the person who took the photo are less them that. "Winners go out and win while losers do whatever takes to bring the winners down to their level!!!"
