How do I keep him from becoming too gimmicky? The problem I run into with him is that he keeps using the same schtick of bellowing into his megaphone and, well, acting like a complete retard. XD;;;

Also, is there a way I can fit him into any kind of RP environment than a crackish dressing room? (The one I'm thinking of is a survival horror setting.)

Any general advice on playing him would be great, too. I... really can't stand this character, but people say I've handled him amazingly, so... XD;;;;;

Well if you don't like the character, don't play him! :P

That said, Mike's got a little more going for him than just being a loser and using the megaphone. Particularly that he's a very hard worker and wants to succeed despite his loser-dom. He's also easily impressed and though stupid, seems to be a nice guy. He seems like he could be good at cheering other people up or making them feel better, or at least finding the positive in a situation, even if that positive is "at least you're not me!" XD

As for playing him in a horror setting... Well, like I said, he could easily be that annoyingly positive and over-enthusiastic, "I THINK WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT GAIZ :B" character, and although he is a loser, he IS still a cop. Other than that we don't know much about the guy, so feel free to make him your own a bit, I'm sure others wont mind (or notice!). :D

Lame answer: I hadn't thought about it because I don't yet know where I want to pull him from. I'm leaning towards Escape from Monkey Island, if it helps.

Lamer answer: The first game, because I can't seem to track any of the rest down.

Well, fortunately it's not a huge deal...his character is static in the important respects: he might've faced down LeChuck multiple times, encountered the Carnival of the Damned twice, and picked up an aversion to porcelain sometime after Monkey Island 2 and before the Curse of Monkey Island but in the end he's Guybrush Threepwood, prepare to die.

Lesse. The guy's got a good sense of humor. He's also got bad luck like nobody's business...canonically speaking, I can't remember a time he recruited a crew without them promptly mutinying, though it was generally amicable sorts of mutinying. Though he's his series' buttmonkey...actually, before I continue, how spoiler-heavy do you want this to be? Most of it you'd pick up quickly on (like one thing I was about to reference is a technical 'spoiler' which you discover in the first five minutes of a game) but I'd rather not ruin your fun.

Still in the process of canon review, but comments/advice would be helpful! First time even thinking about playing her, so I'm a bit anxious.

Keep a balance between the child-persona and the wise, older Noah type. Rhode isn't as young as she likes to appear, and Tyki does come to her for knowledge - so she should have a certain amount of intelligence with all the time she's spent alive, though she shouldn't be all business or geek either. She could say something or give a hint, or she could just giggle like the little girl form she has taken on.

She accepts Cyril as her step-father, and doesn't mind playing the part of the little girl in the family. She'll most likely always respect him, aware or not (I assume she is) of his sometimes lecherous behavior. I'm assuming Tricia might not be aware in the slightest of Rhode's situation, so she'll most likely always behave childishly in front of her. (Though I doubt you'll ever, um, get a Tricia app'd ( ... )

And she's obviously sadistic, liking to play and manipulate her "toys".

The guy's not all timid or nervous like he sometimes seems: he can be pretty badass, too. It might not come up much in the comics, but just take a look at his history, you know?

Plus, he puts up with Poland.

Sorry I can't be much more help, I don't really know the character well.

I think he's a very polite and kind character. He's put up with a lot of shit though, so he's not completely weak or nervous like Latvia, nor is he witty and slightly bratty like Estonia. He's much more in between, I think.

I believe his relationship with his brothers, Russia and Poland are very important, so you should definitely read up on the history of those nations. It may help you out a bit. Also, don't forget his crush on Belarus!

Re: Rose Tyler | Doctor Who anonymous July 27 2009, 19:26:04 UTC
Rose is mouthy, nosy and very ballsy. Maybe not to the same extent as Donna, but she DOES know how to carry on a conversation. She's inquisitive, friendly, and is much like the Doctor in wanting to help people. I've seen a million and one Rose players who play by speaking in very short, very nonpersonal sentences and it's REALLY difficult to play against (it also bugs me on a personal level, because I was fond of her as a companion), because she's not really like that. She's very capable of holding an actual conversation, asking questions, making comments, making judgments, all sorts of things ( ... )

Just, for the love of God, do NOT make her entire life about the Doctor. Yes, she loves him canonically, but she is such an interesting person all on her own. The Doctor is her best friend, not her lover. And if she finds romance elsewhere? SO BE IT. She can handle life on her own!

Very much agree with the first two anons.

Don't forget her faults. She can be short-sighted and self-centred. She makes rash decisions - sometimes they work out, and sometimes they don't. She does have compassion, but it can be misplaced - see Dalek.

She did get a bit wrapped up in the Doctor in season two, but she was still saving people and enjoying the universe. Even if she's loving and/or missing him, that's still there.

She cares a great deal about her family, but she doesn't always consider their feelings. She cares a great deal about the Doctor, but she doesn't know much about him - doesn't think to ask or even assume some things. (Like him having travelled with a lot of people.) She can get petty and jealous, but she can also get over it. She can be callous, but she can also be comforting. (Examples of both are in Tooth and Claw.)

Basically? Examine both her good and bad traits, and don't neglect either.
