Right my little chickadees, I have a proposal to throw into the ring: The idea of moving the game to Greatest Journal has been mooted. I suggest we talk over the pros and cons and then put it to a vote. Now, seeing as we're doing okay here, I think I'd want unanimous decision before any change is made rather than a majority. If anyone really doesn' ( Read more... )

No no no...not banner ads. A few text ads in the user info, I believe. (See this guy's as an example.) I don't see ads anywhere else--and the ones on the info pages are removable.

As for the reliability...um, yeah. *beats LJ with a big stick*

Wicked. I wasn't sure if that was the case so I didn't say either way. Will edit my post. Cheers.

Oddly enough, I can't seem to find a single journal (clicking on Random) that has those ads removed.

Maybe they're lying. /:)

Maybe people are lazy. :p

Or maybe they find them entertaining. Like the ones on Gmail. So far in conversations between me and Louisa's puppets, we've had adverts for Japanese swords (Feanor), sporks (Tar Palantir) and romantic perfumes (Haleth and Caranthire). ;D

I fear change. But I would probably be the least-affected person by such a move, so I'll happily abide, should change be the order of the day.

We can do a trial period if necessary. We can always come running back here with our tails between our legs. ;)

I can include "abstain" as an option in the poll. A "no" vote would be a veto against any change, an "abstain" vote would just mean "don't know, I'll go along with everyone else". Sound fair?

Sounds good to me.

I feel the need to point out that the mass of icons WOULD be good for continuity in that you could keep your puppets baby pics so when you go back a year and a half or so you don't randomly get, for instance, Lucy Liu whinging about having crapped herself

Oooh, excellent point. And I could put back Gwindor's "PWNED!" icon. X)

I'm totally up for this change. Having kept a personal journal over there for about a year and half, I've had no ish-oos with GJ. No dying out etc like LJ. Plus, most of my own RPGs [current and past] are on GJ and it works out just fine.

All of the features LJ asks money for are free over there and it is really not that bad all. :D

No dying out etc like LJ.

That's a big plus for me. *kicks LJ.*

It never gives you that 'comment not posted/server's down for maintenance/please try again later' crap.

Oh gee. I'm so thrilled, now that I finally caved and bought my two paid accounts six months instead of two at a time. :S

Ah. Yes. That's a pisser. Would you be amenable if we thought long-term and waited for current paid accounts to run out? That is something that had crossed my mind too.

I'd like that idea a little better, yes, but my paid accounts don't run out until September and I highly doubt anyone'd want to wait that long. But it would be time consuming to set the whole thing up, so a bit of a transition period would be good, with no actual playing there until a certain date.

From my experience, it's a little bit of a pain to change Semagic back and forth when one is posting, which would only affect people with puppets still on LJ (like me).

Yep. I wouldn't want to go through with the swap unless everyone was happy with it and getting the money's worth from your paid accounts is a damn good reason not to be happy with it. I can completely see where you're coming from. I wouldn't want to swap over until my paid accounts ran out (I've got a shedload of them).

And a transition period would be advisable yes. I was thinking it would take a good bit of time to set up if we did it because OMG, the puppet hordes. ;)
