On the Subway, by Sharon Olds, is a powerful poem. The way she describes a black man is the way most of the world perceives African Americans. I agree that the poem is a bit... offensive in how it's main character describes the guy on the subway. But I think its' frankness contributes positively to open discussion about race relations.

it is really sad, but its also sort of a way to show we need to change in some areas.
