There was some discussion in class this week regarding who was right and who was wrong in the conflict between Creon and Antigone in the play, Antigone. This week, "Greasy Lake" and "The Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" by Boyle and Marquez were on our to-read list. Both dealt with issues of morality, but I personally preferred Boyle's story for it's honesty, style, and lack of ridiculousness ( Read more... )

 I really enjoyed Kate Chopin's "Story of an Hour." I'm kind of familiar with her work already-- I read "The Awakening" in high school-- and while her writing is still old style, a bit hard to understand at times, it still has a lovely, flowing feel to it. I didn't really enjoy "My Last Duchess" or "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock." To enjoy something, you must understand it, and upon first read, I could just barely comprehend what was going on in these poems. Hm. "Stranger Than Fiction" is primarily the story of Harold Crick, and how he learns to take control of his life and turn it into the one he wants. Stranger Than Fiction is not a masterpiece. It is not incredibly intricate, satisfying to peel back layer by layer. It is a sweet, seemingly simple movie, one that I've enjoyed many times before. Last time I watched it, I took notes. And I was blown away by the things I noticed.
