OMG, I'm so sorry...they will not be doing it laporscopically so the recovery time will be longer.
Now I'm thinking maybe I 'shouldn't' postpone till July!!! And i'll have amo with my neice at the end of the month, who has to have gall bladder out too, has been putting it off for 2 years!
Heh, speaking as one who found out that the hard way - the surgery can be avoided. Most especially by diet modification and going to see an N.D. (maybe a chiropractor, if they know their stuff) to get a prescription or health food store tonic for a natural cleansing.
I forget what my A&P teacher said about it, but if and/or when you do have it removed, make sure to eat a lot of broccoli, since it has some of the nutrients that you otherwise would get from the gallbladder.
Mostly - avoid fried & processed foods. I used to eat too much fast food & processed meals & that's what landed me in the ER & then, surgery the following day in July '01. :-p (This was like 2 years o ER trips build up to that point.)
Bub - If your dad was lucky and had the laprscopic surgery, then he'll be up & about in no time, if he didn't, then, just try to see that he doesn't overdo it because he's gonna be one sore puppy for a while!

the gall bladder surgery is pretty simple... much better than the pain of the stones, let me tell you!
Even 2 weeks post partum with complications, I was out with one overnight in the hospital on either side of the surgery.
*hugs again*
