The crime of book purging is that it involves a rejection of the word. For the word is never absolute truth, but only man's frail and human effort to approach the truth. To reject the word is to reject the human search.

The world outside is white and windy. My apartment is not warm or inviting, but cozy by comparison. The pigeons are gathering on my sill again, trying to take in what little sun there is. I'm tempted to let them in. It's warmer in here...

At times I find it odd how people become friends, who becomes your friend, who truly seeks you out and tries. I'm bad at the last part because I am quiet and solitary by nature and upbringing. So that leak? It wasn't just a leak. It rained in my room that night. I spent the wee hours of the morning throwing everything I could out of my room (ie everything but my bed frame and my desk). I am now situated in the living room and repairs won't be made until the Monday after Thanksgiving. Some drainage pipe on the roof backed up and flooded ( Read more... )

There are more leaks. One by my bed, dripping down the wall and soaking my favorite postcards and a corner of my sheets. Two water bubbles on the hallway ceiling.
