Brrrrrrrr!
Amsterdam is cold this week! It was 14F when we landed yesterday and it's no warmer today. Overheated plane, overheated airport, then walking out into a blast of frigid arctic air - not good for my sinuses. And I really pity the folks commuting on bicycles this week - no way you can pedal hard enough to keep yourself warm in this weather ( Read more... ) -
Lather, rinse, repeat
One thing about Amsterdam: I have never seen so many attractive people who need to wash their hair!!! I am constantly shocked by the heads full of oily, stringy hair I see -- not just on tourists or the skaterbois or the white girlz with dreadlocks. These are people in professional clothes having wine in nice restaurants who look like they haven' ( Read more... ) -
Tired of traveling
I never thought it would reach this point, but I think I am tired of traveling. It's a good thing that I've got a break coming up - November 10-December 1 I am at home in Kent. Sleeping in my own bed, eating my own cooking, with access to an unlimited supply of clean underwear and socks ( Read more... ) -
Typical Dutch meal: great food, lousy service
I seriously believe that every Dutch restaurant owner should be dragged to the US and taken out to dinner. Your typical Applebees in America has service that so far outshines the service in the best Dutch restaurants that it isn't even funny anymore. Liar, liar, pants on fire!
Why is it that when I'm stuck on the ground in Cleveland, they tell us that the problem is out flight has no first officer so they have to call one in, but it's a different story in Newark. When I'm stuck there overnight, the airline won't provide a hotel room because the delay was due to *weather*. Oh, was it bad weather that kept our first ( Read more... ) -
Stuck in the airport
Well, my flight to Newark was delayed from 2:55 to 4:40. It will land in Newark, barring further delays, at 6:12. My flight to Amsterdam is due to leave at 6:35. No way I am going to be able to deplane and make it to the next gate, unless they are very close together ( Read more... ) -
Heading home
This is my last night in Amsterdam for a few weeks. I am supposed to be back at the end of next month and I may be spending as much as 5-6 weeks here later in the fall. I am really looking forward to it - Amsterdam is a lovely city, very easy to visit, and a really interesting change of pace from small-town Ohio. I was talking about it with the ( Read more... )
