Fred and Padma would like to recommend the Whiskers City cat scratchers. They're cardboard, not wood, and lay flat on the ground, but they're only $5-10 and they last a while. Fred has to get the double-wide one because he's so fat big.

They also like the cat cubes that Target sells. They're fabric and wire flexible squares that link together and the cats can crawl through them and hide.

Dad might be willing to make a carpeted platform post if Twerp asks nicely.

Twerp will ask *very* prettily then. :) I'll be getting her a nice fabric carrier this fall so that she can come to Charlotte and ask in person and everything!
