Pandemonium Warden: The Fight, Strategy, and Experience

I have a feeling I'm going to hit the LJ limit on post length for this, but there is literally so much to be said and so many details I don't think I can really make it shorter. *OK, I really did run out of space. This will be two updates!

This entire post is going to be about every detail I can come up with in regards to the recent PW attempt by ( Read more... )

Very well made attampt at the most amaging NM in FFXI. Congratulations.

maybe just an idea, but would it help if the people fighting the forms would have the apropriate titles? Example: for fighting Cerebrus have "Cerberus Muzzler" as title so it might intimidate him???
just an idea out of the blue.

People on previous attempts experimented with different titles for the fight, and it didn't appear to make any difference at all.

It's stuff like this that still makes me brag about being from Seraph and look like an outcast since I moved away a while back. XD But damned if Seraph isn't crazy (and besides the fact that there are so many generations of non-native Seraphites that have been there for upwards of 5 years; since it was a server-transfer server). Goddess bless.

Hi, this is Asiren from the Bahamut server. I haven't really touched the zeni system at all, but when I first heard that your linkshell had spent 18+ hours on this boss, I was somewhat awed by your persistence and disgusted at SE for making the fight this long. I understand that it's supposed to be a hard boss, but it's kinda hard to justify that when a normal 9-5 job doesn't even go over 8 hours (and you get breaks!). I'm not considering overtime in this case, though I have experienced that kind of situation before.

If there is a way to beat this boss, it really doesn't seem obvious. It's like that giant scale used to open unstable spatial displacements in Riverne. Hint? What hint? The only hint is that it drops from the zone and it glows. The fact that it was discovered rather early says to me that someone from SE leaked the information or someone was really lucky and threw a random item at the unstable spatial displacements. I guess the fact that you can get stuck on different islands may force people to think about the ( ... )

Every attempt so far has the DD pt killing 1 lamp at a time.
Dont you think this fight will go much faster if multiple parties were taking on several lamps at one time? Of course with limited members this isnt possible but i have seen the fight go from form 2 to form 5 using the same strategy you did and the time consuming part was killing the lamps not the warden itself.

I think if anything that would slow things down.

Attacking more lamps at once would just end up leaving you with more AoE, slower kills on the lamps themselves, and more difficulty for the tank PT. Lamp kills are going to be slow whether you try to have 20 people zerg one or 10 people each zerg two, it won't really make a difference. What will change though is the amount of AoE spam you have to deal with at one time, and tanks will have to deal with more lamps for longer periods of time as well.

If most lamps didn't AoE all over the place, and would actually stand still, I'd probably agree that it may be better to split it up. But it seems like it would make things more difficult with how they behave.

$5 says SE's got a Korean Developer on their team.

It just seems like the type of thing they'd do, after having spent some time on various foreign mmos after taking a haitus from XI.

Ruke,

Read the post and I gotta say that your LS and their determination is killer. It actually is inspiring to read your closing statements, and it is something you guys should be proud of.

If you ever tackle it again, I'd switch servers just for that fight. I have no relic, I'm not fully merited, and I might end up just being 1300 hp that a lamp can lay into. But god damn, you guys deserve the win after that 18 hour bullshit fest.
