A/N: sorry for the delay, I kept getting distracted by homework, a new book, and a new TV show that I started watching.

It was the next day and Jhera had just finished changing for her combat training class. Today was the day that they would be given their partners for the remainder of the year. She wasn't too worried and all she wanted to do was start sparring more. It would take a while before the class got to that level, but she was willing to wait.

"Alright," the professor said loudly to get the student's attention. "I have a list of your assigned partners. They were chosen at random and you will not be allowed to switch unless you and your partner are having serous problems." He started reading off the list of pairing s he was holding. "And last, we have Darian and Jhera."

Jhera's eye widened and she looked up to see her new partner looking back at her with the same look.

"Everyone get together with your partner and spread out around the room. We are going to start using the basic moves you learned last class to fight with another person. I will call out each move and you will perform it, then you will hold your position until the next move is called out. The goal of this is not to actually fight, but to start getting used to the feel of landing these movies on another person. No one is to actually land any on their partner or to move ahead without my direction."

Jhera and Darian found a place along one of the room's walls before turning to face each other. They started at each other while waiting for everyone else to find their partners and a place to work.

After a minute, Darian's eyebrows inched up his forehead as he watched her watch him. Seeing this, she crossed her arms over her chest and shifted her weight to her other leg, raising one of her own eyebrows in return. A smirk was threatening to cross Darian's face.

A few of the surrounding students saw that they were having what seemed to be a silent conversation and looked on in interest. They were disturbed though as their professor called for them to take their positions.

After the first half hour or so of exercises, Darian and Jhera started to get a little carried away. They started actually landing their hits, but not hard enough for them to hurt. That was just the beginning. After another fifteen minutes, they started breaking away from their professor's instructions. Neither of them could help it as the competition behind the simple exercises started taking over.

It wasn't long before they were in their own world, completely oblivious to all the students that were starting to take notice. This, of course, attracted the attention of the professor who made his way over to them. When he was close enough, he grabbed both  of their right arms that were positioned to strike.

They both looked to him, obviously startled by his presence. When he was sure that he had their attention, he dropped both their arms. "Would you like to explain what you are doing?"

Jhera looked away knowing that she couldn't afford to get into too much trouble. Darian, on the other hand, met the professor's gaze before saying, "we just got a little carried away professor."

His gaze shifted to Jhera before slipping back to Darian. "Is this going to be a problem?"

"No sir." He replied without hesitation, though he knew it wouldn't be easy to hold back when it came to sparring with his partner.

"Jhera?" The professor said in a tone that made her look him in the eyes briefly before turning away again.

She gave him a muttered, "No sir."

"Good. Now get back into your positions and it would be prudent for you to follow my directions this time."

The class continued, but it was hard for Jhera to hold her concentration. Her blood was singing with the need to continue the fight and she wouldn't be able to wait another day before she could spar with Gharak. It was time to release some of the blood magic.

This change in her demeanor did not go unnoticed by Darian. He could tell that she was having issues focusing and he could feel the power radiating from her whenever a position brought him close. He himself as having similar concentration issues. All he wanted to do was continue the fight.

Throughout the rest of the day, Jhera's concentration problems continued and she could feel Darian watching her. She sighed and went back to her work and tried to regain some semblance of focus.

the day was passing so slowly, that the even considered missing her last class, but knew it would not be good if she did. She had taken to counting the minutes until she could go up to the roof.

She wished Gharak could be there tonight, but he had been taken to the infirmary after an incident in his magic class. Someone had lost control of their magic and he had been the victim, resulting in a three day stay in the infirmary. Today was only the second day.

When dinner finally came, she rushed through it as quickly as possible before returning to her room to get as much homework done as she could before heading up to the roof. She wouldn't be able to do any later since Gharak wouldn't be there to help her. His absence meant that she would have no way to replenish her blood once the ritual was over and she would most likely spend the rest of the night passed out on the roof. This wasn't an ideal situation, but she had no other choice.

By the time everyone else was in bed, she had finished all of her assignments due the next day and had made good headway on the rest.

She poked her head out the door to make sure that no one was out in the halls before slipping out and making her way up to the roof.

Just before starting the ritual, she looked up to the sky, glad that the weather was nice enough for sleeping outside, since that was what she would have to do. Starting a small fire below her outstretched hand, she pulled out the knife that was hidden in the waistband of her pajama pants. She made the incision in her arm and felt herself relax as the magical tension started to ease.

It didn't take long for her to let out enough magic. It had been looking for the first and easiest outlet it could find and it had certainly found it during the ritual. She watched as the gash started to close up while walking over to a piece of the roof that was slightly raised. Sitting down with her back against another raised section, she looked back toward the sky. She again wished that Gharak was there, not even necessarily in a blood donor capacity, but for the company. Plus, it would mean that he was feeling better.

She let her eyelids flutter shut just before she heard the door to the roof opening and footsteps moving in her direction. Slowly opening her eyes, she looked up at the figure towering over her before closing her eyes again.
